DV7-1245DX Notebook - JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller Error

[ Edited ]

I keep getting the following error in the event viewer on my laptop:

The device 'JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller' (PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2382&SUBSYS_30FC103C&REV_00\4&3b4983b4&0&0028) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

This occurs even though I have never put anything into or taken anything out of the SD/MMC slot. The details for the error are:

  System
    - Provider
      [ Name] PlugPlayManager
    - EventID 12
      [ Qualifiers] 49152
      Level 2       Task 0       Keywords 0x80000000000000     - TimeCreated
      [ SystemTime] 2009-02-07T16:48:00.000Z
EventRecordID 40375       Channel System       Computer Les-PC       Security
- EventData
      JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller       PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2382&SUBSYS_30FC103C&REV_00\4&3b4983b4&0&0028       00000000

In addition, the error is always accompanied by the following errors:

The device 'JMB38X xD Host Controller' (PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2384&SUBSYS_30FC103C&REV_00\4&3b4983b4&0&0428) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

The device 'JMB38X MS Host Controller' (PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&SUBSYS_30FC103C&REV_00\4&3b4983b4&0&0328) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

The device 'JMB38X SD Host Controller' (PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2381&SUBSYS_30FC103C&REV_00\4&3b4983b4&0&0228) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

If I had to venture a guess I'd say it looks like the software is looping through a hardware check routine, not finding a card inserted into the xD/SD/MS/MMC slot and printing an error message erroneously.   I have Vista home premium 64 bit and the AMD Turion dual core RM72.

Any suggestions that would eliminate the error entry or correct the error (better) would be appreciated.

Thanks, Lesterr

Re: DV7-1245DX Notebook - JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller Error

This is an update on the MB38X SD/MMC Host Controller Error.  I emailed HP Customer Care and they suggested several things (softpaqs) over several emails and several days and I think exhausted their arsenal of tips and tricks.  None of the suggestions took care of the problem. When I informed them that I had another dv7-1245dx, which was purchased several weeks prior to the one I'm working with, and it has the identical problem they decided to kick the issue up to another level.  That was several days ago and so far I have not heard anything back. I will try to keep this updated because I can't believe every dv7-1245dx out there doesn't have the same issue.  As an additional note on the problem, I can insert an SD card into the Card Reader and read the files just fine, which kind of supports my theory that the error is erroneous and shouldn't be reported.

Try This,Reboot your laptop press F10 to Enter the BIOS SetupUnder System ConfigurationCard Reader/1394 Power SavingChoose Disabled.Save and exit from BIOS Setup.Logon to Vistadownload new driver from ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb38x/XP_Vista/JMB38X_WinDrv_R1.00.24_WHQL.zip
Install it and reboot. This should do that.I’m not sure if this option will drain the batteries when not connected to a power core. //Maru

Re: DV7-1245DX Notebook - JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller Error

Thank you Maru.  I performed the operations you suggested and that took care of the problem. I was skeptical because I only run my laptop plugged into the AC, rarely off the battery, but the solution still worked.  I'm not sure it was necessary to upgrade the driver to 1.00.24 but it didn't seem to hurt anything.  I inserted a SD card from my camera and was able to access all the files sp I appear to have full functionality.  Thanks again.
