Windows 8.1

I would like to keep my laptop from displaing the System Information dialog box that appears when I hit the keyboard combination of CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + S. It is a commonly used shortcut in Photoshop for saving files. It is irksome to have to continuously close that dialog box before continuing with the save process.

Is there a way to disable this keyboard shortcut in Windows 8.1?

Here is the dialog box I get:

Hi @lincolntheiler ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!:smileyhappy:

It is a wonderful  place to find answers and suggestions!

For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More

I see that you would like to disable the Windows hot keys so you can use the shortcuts in your Photoshop.

Here is a link to How do I turn off Hotkeys from answer.microsoft.com that should assist you.  This will allow you to disable the Windows hotkeys.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply Sparkles, but unfortunately, I'm running Window's 8 and don't have the same options on right click as the person that responded to the original question in the link you provided.

I've tried searching for Hotkeys using the Window's search function and found nothing. There is a set of tools for "Shortcuts" but it doesn't have a checkbox that would allow me to turn this shortcut off.

I've done a few searches in forums and on Google for a Window's 8 solution, but have come up with nothing.

Any other thoughts on this?

Again, thanks for the reply.

HI @lincolntheiler

I regret that was not usefull.  After doing some more research I believe it you uninstall the Quick Launch this should prevent the issue.

Good Luck!

Simply change the name of C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP System Event\SysInfo.exe with something else.

It's a workaround while HP and Microsoft solve this.

This worked for me. I renamed sysinfo.exe to sysinfoOLD.exe. Now my Ctrl/Alt/S works properly in my other program.

Thanks!

I have changed the name of C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP System Event\SysInfo.exe to something else.

It worked for a while but after a few months the shortcut combo of ctrl+alt+s came back to annoy me.

checked if the file changed back and it is still with the alias name.

H @berale,

Thank you for your update.  I regret that the work around has stopped working for you.

Have you tried right clicking on the desktop and choosing Graphic options/ hot keys and disabling it?

Here is a link from the Windows How-To section that I think may help.

Keyboard shortcuts.

Here is another link that may help, but please be wary of making and changes in the registry as it can cause issue.  If you choose to try this please backup the registry first and create a restore point to go back to just to be safe.

Looks like SysInfo.exe moved to a new location. Try renaming it in this directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Hp\HP System Event\

Seems to work for me (for now).

However, you should really be able to disable this shortcut.

Or try renaming SysInfoEx.exe.

I'd renamed SysInfo.exe on my Envy 13 with no change in behavior; renaming the above did the trick. (I didn't revert SysInfo.exe's name.)
