I have recently purchated an HP Probook with following model:

Product Name: HP Probook 4540s(D0N71PA)

Problem: The probook has come with Windows 8 preinstalled. I want to install Linux on the machine however concerned if the warranty gets void after installing any other OS then pre installed one.

Can any one help on this?

Hi

The hardware warranty remains the same but the software warranty will be void. I hope this has answered your question.

Thanks for quick response.

I am going to keep Pre-installed OS as its however want to install linux on different drive. Will it still void my software warranty?

Moreover in the HP Warranty specifies that only hardware and battery is covered under the 1 year warranty. So will it be ok if i install other OS.

According to the HP warranty on a recent purchase of a Laptop, because the Laptop has been designed to work on the pre installed software (which is rubbish!) then your warranty is void if you change it! Very strange as you can change your hard drive if it packs up within the terms of the warranty. A new HD will have no operating sytem on it, bit silly! So it seems if you do change the hard drive and install Win7 instead of Win8 and send it in for repair then your warranty is void!
