Re: HP Connection Manager Fatal Error

HEY,

Try this.

First step

1. Go to Start and type "msconfig" in the search field.

2. This will bring up the System Configuration box.  If you see the "Startup" tab, you're good.

3. Close this box

Second step

1. Go to Start

2. Control Panel

3. Select Programs and then Programs and Features

4. Scroll down to "HP Support Assistant" and right click to uninstall

Third step:

1. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54620.exe

2. Click on save

3. Save it on the desktop

4. Double click on that icon

5. Then click on Run

Restart your computer after you have completed the above steps. You should not receive that pop-up again.

Hope it works for you.  Good Luck!

Re: HP Connection Manager Fatal Error

I have the same problem, I followed all the steps and the Support Assisitant upgraded to the most recent version, no fix.  I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC model number: B2P30UA#ABL running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.  Next steps?

Re: HP Connection Manager Fatal Error

HI gregmcgowan,

Welcome to the HP forum!

I understand you are having difficulty with the Connection  Manager. I see you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but to no avail.  I would suggest that you ensure all of your Windows updates  are installed. I would uninstall as you did previously. Next clear your temp file. Open charms and type in %temp%. Open the temp file and delete the contents.  I am sending you a link to HP Support Assistant to get the latest version to reinstall. Please  let me know the results.

Re: HP Connection Manager Fatal Error

Hi Greg,

I looked up your system -- was it orginally installed with Windows 7?

The Connection Manager is not a viable tool on Windows 8.1 -- simply said, "Connection Manager does not run on Windows 8.1".

Re: HP Connection Manager Fatal Error

I found a solution that seems to be still working.  I launched hppiw.exe which lead me to these steps once it had done it's checking.  I went to devices and removed both printers that I have.  I went to search type HP--> then clicked "add device"-->right click on "aad device"--> on bottom of screen "open in file"--> found the folder with the printer-->clicked "add device."  It reinstalled printer and was connected and seen in HP Digital Monitor, I did the same for my other printer.  What started this was that I was not able to see in Explorer my networked printer and any files that I had scanned.

Re: HP Connection Manager Fatal Error

Greg,

Excellent.

The tool you discovered is the Printer Install Wizard - hppiw

Description:

The HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.

Simply run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions.

NOTE: The HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows does not support Windows RT for ARM-based tablets or computers. Installation of additional printing software is not required. HP recommends that users utilize the print capabilities already included in Windows RT.

A bit more information on the Wizard is found here:  Windows 8 Printer Drivers

Look in the first section named: How do I find and install the latest Windows 8 drivers?
