Hi,

I recently installed Windows 7 Enterprise on my HP Elitebook 8540w and the device has had a couple of kinks since then.

The Hardware under pc properties looks like the pic. It won't allow me install a driver for my printer/scanner, and the headphone jack hasn't worked since installing Windows 7 Enterprise.

Thanks in advance. 🙂

Hi:

Please install the chipset driver first and reboot:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

The base system device is missing the card reader driver:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

See if this USB 3.0 driver fixes the USB issue.

If the unknown device still exists after installing the above drivers please do as David requested and post the hardware ID's for it so we can send you the link to the drivers.

I hadn't, but I followed the advice on it and this came up:

Hi,

Go into Device Manager, right click on the problem device and select Properties.  Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.  Do this for each device that shows an error.

Alright, I did as Paul said and that fixed most of the drivers, but it's still not recognizing the 'unknown driver'. These are the dirty details for the driver(as requested):

Have you installed the HP Protect Tools software packages for your model?(you won't need LoJack for Protect Tools unless you have licensed it)

Hi:

The last missing device driver is your validity fingerprint sensor driver.
