My computer will sleep fine if I tell it to, but it won't do it automatically. That function is critical to my computer's security.

I confirm that I've told it to sleep after 1 minute, whether on battery or plugged in. If I tell it to dim the screen after a minute, that works fine, but it will not sleep.

Below is the Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report (Forum removed HTML) -- note the errors.

I have unplugged all USB devices. I have stopped the WIndows Media Network Sharing Service. I have disconnected from the network (airplane mode). It still will not sleep.

Please tell me what else to try.

Thanks.

I've been trying things all morning. Many people on the Internet have been having this problem.

Well, all of a sudden it worked.

Unfortunately, I don't know which thing fixed it. For everything I tried, I waited over a minute, and nothing had worked. It wasn't until I gave up that it went to seleep.

I think one problem is that I needed to wait two minutes for each test, instead of only a minute. I expect that one thing that I did worked, but my inadequate test mistakenly labeled it as a failure.

Hello Piano Al,

I recently purchased an HP Envy as well and am experiencing the same problem.  My usage of the laptop relies on it being able to sleep automatically.  I see that this question is over a year old and was wondering if you ever figured out the issue, or how to fix it.

Did you ever get your laptop to go into sleep mode automatically?

Thanks.
