HP PAVILLION DV7 4045ea Touch Pad Not Working

Hi Everyone,

Can someone help me, I am running windows 7 64 bit on this machine I have only had the computer a few days and the touch pad does not work. I know the hardware is ok because I have downloaded the driver from Synaptics site, but windows seems to loose it when I power down? Has anyone had this problem if so can you help.

Many Thanks

Re: HP PAVILLION DV7 4045ea Touch Pad Not Working

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.  Restart the notebook.

Now reinstall the synaptics driver and when complete, reboot the notebook again.  If on restart, the driver has gone AWOL again, from windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Mice and Other Pointing Devices, right click on your Touchpad device and select uninstall.  When this has completed, restart yet again and see if Windows will rediscover the device and install the appropriate driver.

Regards,

Re: HP PAVILLION DV7 4045ea Touch Pad Not Working

Hi Davidpk,

I do not believe it!!!!!  The pad became erratic and stopped working, looked in control panel and all of the driver info had gone all except the tab for synaptics. I installed again and got it working again only to have the same problem. Do you think it is a Windows 7 Problem? as when the pad is working it is fine for about three or four boot up's.

Many Thanks.

Re: HP PAVILLION DV7 4045ea Touch Pad Not Working

Hi,

Sorry to hear it's playing up again.  Try the following.

Download the latest Synaptics Driver installer on the link below and save it to your Desktop.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50594.exe

Next, shutdown the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and remove the battery. Now hold down the Power Button on the notebook for a full minute. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.

When windows has fully loaded, right click the installer on your Desktop and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

If the above doesn't help the problem, the root cause may well be a Hardware issue and I would recommend returning the notebook to the retailer and getting a replacement - you shouldn't have to be working this hard to get a brand new machine to work correctly.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

DP-K

Thankyou for that I will try this method soon, I have my doubts now about the hardware now as you are quite correct I should  not be having this trouble. However in saying that I have been hearing reports about this problem alot so I will try another couple of times, and if no joy it goes back.
