Looks like it is a problem with HP protect tools

After months of trying to figure out this problem, someone posted a solution to my question on Experts-Exchange This solution does not require a reinstallation of anything, if you are currently experiencing this problem. Just follow the steps below. If you're planning on capturing an image of an HP computer, I would recommend that you complete these steps BEFORE you capture the image. But chances are, you found this because it's too late and you are having this problem now.

Uninstall:
-Device Access Manger for HP ProtectTools
-Privacy Manager for HP ProtectTools
-Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools
Reboot

Uninstal HP ProtectTools Security Manager

Reboot

Re: How do I fix Login error HRESULT Error 0x8007ffff

Hello,

I am getting the error on a Pavilion dv6 laptop with Windows 7.

Where do you go to uninstall:

Device Access Manger for HP ProtectTools
-Privacy Manager for HP ProtectTools
-Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools
Reboot

Uninstal HP ProtectTools Security Manager

Thanks,

Laslo

5.REBOOT.

6.UNINSTALL VALIDITY SENSOR DRIVERS.

7.UNINSTALL HP SIMPLE PASS IDENTITY PROTECTION/DIGITAL PERSONA SOFTWARE.

Re: How do I fix Login error HRESULT Error 0x8007ffff

Hi,

I am having the same exact issue.

after window updates, laptop restarted and i am getting  HRESULT Error 0x8007ffff error with ok button. when i press ok then it shows 3 users (admin, other user & finger print(my laptop don't have fingure print reader feature)).

but I only have one user account (admin). and i can't login in using my admin user. so i am forced to restart the laptop.

i got this issue becoz recently i have change the harddrive and reinstalled the os and drivers (by a technician) i didn't have this issue before.

thread mention if i uninstalled some programs will solve the problem. but i couldn't find any of the mention belows to uninstall in the programs and feautures.

Uninstall:
-Device Access Manger for HP ProtectTools
-Privacy Manager for HP ProtectTools
-Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools
Reboot

Uninstal HP ProtectTools Security Manager

Reboot

Only thing i found is "HP simple pass indenty production" in the programs and feautures, control panel.

my question is how can i solve this  HRESULT Error 0x8007ffff error.

please help to solve this issue.

thanks in advance.

Re: How do I fix Login error HRESULT Error 0x8007ffff

Go Into safe mode pressing F8 on boot.

click start type CMD

type the following: net user <yourusername> password

then restart your computer

your new password will be password

you can then go into useraccounts and change your password or remove it.

hope this helps.

HP Pavillion dv7t- 4100 CTO - Error hresult 0x8007ffff

Recently I disabled the password when entering into XP.  When I went to open virtual machine it again asked me for a password and I was locked out.  Downloaded the NT Offline Password Recovery, modified the passwords for Admin, HomeGroupUsers and Kristin.  Completed all steps.  Went to sign into Windows 7, I was locked out. In safe mode, I disabled all passwords and again cleared passwords with NT Offline.

This is my work laptop, have spent hours trying to resolve.  Thank you kindly for your help!!  I have read all reads and but bc I have dual operating systems I have been unsuccessful.

Re: HP Pavillion dv7t- 4100 CTO - Error hresult 0x8007ffff

I found that the HP Protect Tools were causing the problem. I did however have to update to the most recent version to uninstall the HP Security Suite. After that, the error has been resolved.

Updating can be done with the installed HP support assistant software.
