Re: Increase / Decrease Brightness buttons are not working (After downgraded to Windows XP)

Brightness issue after XP downgrade is BIOS problem.

MS has changed some settings in Vista and Win7, in other models (dv6, dv7 and CQ40, CQ45) needs to flash latest BIOS to fix it. But the fix was never officially documented in BIOS release notes.

If the current BIOS does not fix it, all you can do is just wait for an other update, probably within 3 months however there is no guarantee HP will fix it since HP does not support XP for consumers notebook.

an other thread for unhappy ending with XP. :smileysad:

Re: Increase / Decrease Brightness buttons are not working (After downgraded to Windows XP)

is there a way to mod (patch in Hex) the rom file of the BIOS before flashing it, & then flash the BIOS with the patched rom file in order to change keyboard configuration in that rom file ?

I am not daring enough to try or suggest any modifying of a BIOS.Too easy to end up with an expensive paperweight if something is done wrong. There are sites which 'specialize' in modding BIOS.

Hi!
I think you should check if any video card drivers are installed. Uninstalling ATI driver worked for me on windows 7, but to be honest, I haven't tried it on xp... Maybe worth trying it.
