No luck here.  I tried the last two posted fixes, ran the new HP Support Assistant, installed the freshly dated 09-01-15

drivers that suddenly showed for my model laptop, it worked well for most of the day but finally froze up again.

I gave them a month, back to 8.1 for awhile I guess.

If you haven't already, try this:

Got the same error on this m7-K111DX on the previous instilation of 10 I originally upgraded from 8.1 to.

Yes, my Laptop (HP Pavillion 15) Will not go into sleep mode, If I either click the power button and select sleepmode, or if I just press the power button, the screen will turn off and the power light will remain on, this is very annoying as whenever I accedently do this I have to turn off my Laptop and turn it back on. This ONLY started happening for me when I upgraded to Windows 10, please provide a solution, this bug is very very annoying!

Seems like the last couple of pages are filled with people new to this thread who didn't read all posts in it. Can't really blame them with this many pages so for them I quote here the excellent tutorial written by DanG84:

HOW TO RESOLVE POST-WINDOWS 10 UPGRADE ISSUES ON HP LAPTOPS

----------

After upgrading your HP laptop to Windows 10, you may notice any or all of the following issues:

  • System hangs when attempting to sleep or shut down, particularly after long periods of use.
  • TouchPad settings do not save across sessions.
  • Wi-Fi connection is unstable and constantly disconnects and reconnects.

Follow the steps below to resolve these issues.

----------

NOTE #1: My laptop model is the HP ENVY 15-u010dx x360.  These fixes should work on most HP laptop models with similar specs and features, but please consult your manual and check for drivers that are compatible with your system.

NOTE #2: A very special thanks to Zoomelliott, Sibu16, re4med, and everyone on the HP Support Forums (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Windows-10-Laptop-won-t-go-into...) who helped troubleshoot these issues and worked together to discover the solutions!

HOW TO RESOLVE SLEEP/SHUTDOWN ISSUES

  1. Download version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver.
  2. Download the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab).
  3. Change the Windows Update Services setting from Automatic (Delayed Start) to Manual.
    • In the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools and open Services.
    • Scroll down to Windows Update and double-click it to bring up its properties.
    • Click Stop to stop the service from running.
    • Change the Startup Type to Manual and click OK.
  4. Install version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver.  If you receive a dialog warning about replacing a newer version of the software, accept it.
    • NOTE: You do NOT need to uninstall version 11 before installing version 9 or 10.  The presence of some version of the driver is required in order to "upgrade" (or in this case downgrade) it.
  5. Run the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package and hide updates to the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver.  (Doing so will block your system from automatically reinstalling or showing updates for version 11 of the driver.)
  6. Change the Windows Update Services setting from Manual back to Automatic (Delayed Start).
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Rejoice!  You can finally sleep and shut down again.  🙂

HOW TO RESOLVE TOUCHPAD SETTING RESET ISSUES

  1. Download version 18 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver and Software.
    • Navigate HP's Software and Driver Downloads site (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html) to find the latest approved driver for your model.  Filter by version, selecting Microsoft Windows 8.1 on the dropdown menu.  Look for the download in the "Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices" category.  If a Synaptics driver with a version number starting in 18 is listed, download it.
    • If a Synaptics driver with a version number starting in 18 is NOT listed, download the driver directly from HP (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68001-68500/sp68198.exe).
  4. Uninstall version 19 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver.
    • In the Control Panel, select Device Manager.
    • Click the "+" next to "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" to expand that category.
    • Double-click on the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad to bring up its properties.
    • Navigate to the Driver tab and click Uninstall.
    • Check the box to delete the driver software for this device, then click OK to uninstall.
  5. Uninstall version 19 of the Synaptics TouchPad Software (HP Control Zone).
    • In the Control Panel, select Programs and Features.
    • Scroll down to HP Control Zone (published by Synaptics Incorporated) and uninstall it.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Install version 18 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver and Software.
  8. Run the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package and hide updates to the Synaptics TouchPad Driver.  (Doing so will block your system from automatically reinstalling or showing updates for version 19 of the driver.)
  9. Change the Windows Update Services setting from Manual back to Automatic (Delayed Start).
  10. Restart your computer again.
  11. Rejoice!  Your TouchPad settings will finally save across sessions again.  🙂

HOW TO RESOLVE WI-FI CONNECTION INSTABILITY ISSUES

NOTE: This issue applies specifically to Intel 7260/3160 Wireless LAN cards.  Do not follow these steps if your model does not include one of these cards.

  1. Download the latest version of the Intel 7260/3160 Wireless LAN Driver – currently version 17.16.2.1 Rev. P (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71531.exe).
  2. Install the driver update.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Rejoice! Your Wi-Fi connection will finally be stable.  🙂

It is not that we did't read all posts, the problem seems to be that these temporary fixes only work on some HP laptops.
I have a Zbook 15, and have tried everything written here and elsewhere without been able to solve the "sleep issue"
Now I have rolled back to 8.1 to wait for a solution, but I don't like it....

The sleep/shutdown walkthrough I posted should be a permanent, not temporary, fix for many users with various different models.  It does seem ZBook users in particular are having a related but different issue that is not resolved by that process though.

I can't get anything other than the most recent version to install, see my previous post.  Had the same issue on a previous instilation of 10.  So no solution for me, though I'm experimenting with having IME uninstalled completely.  Which consists of having my laptop sitting next to me and every now and again I open the lid, fiddle around, and close the lid.  Again, and again, and again.  What a goofy problem.  This is like trying to get hibernate to work on windows 98se lol...

Well, it looks like the issue has come back, and I think it may have been due to me not being quick to stop Windows from updating my OS to the latest version of 10.

It did it in a weird way where I was in the middle of doing something and all of the sudden the screen turned black. This wasn't due to sleep mode or shutdown. The laptop screen remained black but kept illuminating on and off for a couple of minutes until I finally received the new blue screen of death. Once I reached this screen, Windows told me that it was then updating some stuff, and when I was finally able to log back on, I got a notification that "Updates were installed." Almost makes me think that the computer forced itself into the blue screen of death or some weird scheduling happened that I kept putting off, tried to do the update, failed, and then somehow updated.

This happened probably a few days ago and I didn't see any issues regarding the main problem that is the subject of this thread, but last night when I went to turn my laptop off, light remained on but the screen turned off. I could still hear my laptop again. I immediately turned it back on after hard resetting to see if the IMEI updated itself, but it looks like it is still on version 9.5.24.1790 with a date of 11/27/2013. If it helps, my Intel HD Graphics driver version is 10.18.15.4256, which I think I updated before doing other solutions.

Not sure what to do now but to sadly, patiently wait for the official update, whenever it comes. The more I think of when the date will be, I'm thinking of the same time Edge will get extensions. Luckily in my situation, I shouldn't have to be putting my laptop to sleep that much. I can deal with the hard resets, too. Perhaps I went about something the wrong way with this solution that has the in-depth guide and someone may guide me.

Windows 10 - Laptop won't go into sleep mode (Solution)

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Windows-10-Laptop-won-t-go-into...

I have read so many suggestions on how to correct this problem but all worked only intermittently, as the problem is intermittent the question was did any of them really work.

But I may have come up with a solution that seems to really address the issue without applying patches.

I have now had 18 successful attempts to put the computer to sleep in the last 24 hrs and zero failures.

On #19 the computer did not go to sleep instead it turned off after about a minute to 90 seconds. On restart everything worked fine. Well that wasn't great news but at least I did not have to do a Hard Shutdown as was my previous experience.

After the computer is put in to sleep mode it takes about 30 seconds before it actually enters sleep mode, during this time the F11 key light turns on. Then it enters sleep mode.

When I touch my touchpad the computer wakes and everything is exactly the way I left it.

The wake up is basically instantaneous.

Solution:

Go to Settings

System

Power and Sleep

Additional Power Settings

Change Plan settings

Change Advanced Power Settings

Expand Sleep

Expand Hybrid Sleep

“Turn on”

Next

Confirm that

The box is checked by “Turn on Fast Startup”

To get there just click on “Choose What the Power Button Does” in the “Power Options” Screen.

If box is not checked

Click on “Change Settings that are currently unavailable

Then check the box and click on the “Save changes” Button

I am not a Computer Geek or any kind of expert, I just kept trying and this is what has worked for me.

I will keep a log of successful attempts to enter “Sleep Mode” and update this post till I hit 25. If I have a failure I will report it.

Best of Luck

I gave up for the time being, back to 8.1, pretty happily too.  With Start8 and the tablet-ey stuff turned off, it's really a pretty slick OS itself still.  I'll keep an eye on this thread, hopefully it get's fixed eventually.
