The fingerprint reader is not connected

[ Edited ]

Hello everybody,

well as you see the title sums up my problem..

I have HP Pavilion dv5 1160ej which I have bought recently, and then this problem came up out of nowhere!

the computer doesn't recognize me enrolling my finger on the fingerprint reader

I have a red "X"  mark on the tray icon of the DigitalPersona software, and when I click a finger to enroll and save my fingerprint in the wizard at the software it tells me that "the fingerprint reader is not connected"!!!!

how the hell should I connect it when it's built-in the pc?

Device manager looks great no problems, I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver many times and restarted the computer many times too and nothing helped..

At the computer log on screen I see written next to my account "Detecting reader.."

please help me guys I really like this technology and want to get it back..

Re: The fingerprint reader is not connected

Other than uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, have you tried to download a newer version of the driver.  Doing this from device manager might help but sometimes it doesn't detect or find the newest driver.  Try going to the finger print reader's manufacturer's site and see if there are any drivers there you can download.

Re: The fingerprint reader is not connected

yes I did that too..

I downloaded the latest version of the driver from the HP site and it appeared to be that my version was the correct one

also when installing the computer did not detect the fingerprint reader too!!

I have another version of windows and it is still working properly..

The version which faces the problem is Windows Vista Ultimate, but the version which is everything OK on it is Vista Home Premium

I should say that it was working properly and then the problem appeared out of the sudden with no cause!

I would be glad to hear another solution cuz this one did not work :smileyfrustrated:

Thanks anyway..

Re: The fingerprint reader is not connected

Are you saying you have two machines, one running Vista Ultimate and one running Vista Home Premium?

Did the fingerprint reader ever work since you have had your computer?

Re: The fingerprint reader is not connected

No I'm saying that I have two versions of Vista on the same machine..

At first, both versions were working well with the reader until suddenly the Vista edition stopped detecting the fingerprint reader (which is built-in!)

Re: The fingerprint reader is not connected

Okay, I see what you are saying.

Do you recall downloading any Windows updates within that time?  Maybe you downloaded some other software since it worked correctly.

Have you thought about doing a system restore back to the date it worked correctly?

Continue trying and I will too!
