I bought a new HP Notebook running VIsta and there is a service running on it that has no description and a weird name.

Is this a a legimitate service and what does it do?

Why would I want it?

Thanks,

Chip

Hello CHIPDAWES,

The Andrea ST FIlters Service is related with SigmaTel Audio, mostly used with Microphones, for noise cancellation, so it is a Legitamate

Hope this helps :generic:

You technically don´t need it, but it does not hurt you and gives the people listening you over the phone more clarity of your voice. If you are still curious you can find out more about this service on: http://technology.bauzas.com/sigmatel/what-is-andrea-st-filters-service/

Not just SigmaTel or Dell. I have a custom build and my THX has that. I find it anoying. It causes movies and or music to cut out. To disable... right click on your "Computer or My Computer" desktop icon, go to "manage". Once there, click on "sevices and aplications" then go to "services". Find the service, "Andrea ST FIlters Service" or maybe named Andrea RT FIlters Service" Right click on that service and select "properties" and go to "start up type" and disable that service.
