My Pavilion dv6 is not in everyday use, so I turn it on ~ monthly for updates.
Suddenly I can not run Windows Update! error code 8024800A.
I ran the repair app from Microsoft, that did not work. Found various other fixes via Google, but not I understand well enough to actually use.
Can someone please give me a clear, step by step fix for this.

Thanks for the useful commands. I found another forum that wanted me to run a similar command but asked me to restart the computer which isn't a viable option on a production server during the day. We run/install updates during the day and restart the servers after business hours.
The commands above helped with windows update error 8024800A while trying to do updates on 2008 R2
I even created an account just to say THANK YOU!

Remember to run cmd.exe as administrator.
To do this, click on start > type cmd in the search box > right click on cmd.exe and click on run as administrator.
Follow the next steps as mentioned above and you should not have any problems.
