dv7 Blu-Ray Player Update?

HP MediaSmart Blu-Ray DVD player version: 4.0.2.4215

I purchased the Star Wars dvd's on Blu-Ray but when I popped one in I get a screen saying I need to update my player's software.  Currently there is no update available under the Settings and the screen gives me a website to go to to try and download the update...but the site cannot detect my dvd player.  (http://cyberlink.com/BDUpdate  is where it's telling me to go)

Suggestions?

Hi,

The following may be worth trying to see if it resolves this issue.

Download the installer for the HP version of Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

Cyberlink PowerDVD 10

When the download has completed, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP MediaSmart DVD and select uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, double click the PowerDVD 10 installer to start the installation and when this has completed, see if you can play your Blu ray Disc.

Regards,

Re: dv7 Blu-Ray Player Update?

Why would I uninstall the MediaSmart player?

Re: dv7 Blu-Ray Player Update?

Hi,

HP MediaSmart DVD ( which is by Cyberlink ) has been replaced on later notebooks by Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 and is generally a better solution.

Re: dv7 Blu-Ray Player Update?

I had the same issues with the discs.  Followed the directions and I'm able to watch them now.  You just have to make sure once you load the software, before you start playing the discs, make sure to go into the application settings and under Blu-Ray Disk Settings, click Advanced and go to the Windows Aero tab.  Check the box that disables Aero while watching Blu-rays, otherwise the disc will never load properly.  MediaSmart used to do that automatically, but PowerDVD doesnt.

I am having this same problem, but have been unable to connect to ftp.hp.com for some time for some reason. Is there a download mirror?

Re: dv7 Blu-Ray Player Update?

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm having this problem with a newer DV7T, bought late in 2012.  The Star Wars Blu-rays in PowerDVD 10 from HP show a red screen saying my blu-ray player needs to be updated.  I'm running the very latest version from HP.  I also tried disabling Aero (though I'm not sure if that even exists anymore in Win 8) and that doesn't change the message.
