dvd/cd is not working on Pavilion dv7

Hi, I am having problems with my DVD/CD player - it is not working. The loader opens up and when you insert disk, it make running noise but nothing registers. When I open my computer tab there is no indication of CD.

Re: dvd/cd is not working on Pavilion dv7

Hi,

First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.

Windows 7

Vista

Check if the drive is now working.

If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.

Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

Regards,

Re: dvd/cd is not working on Pavilion dv7

Hi incrosnatu,

So your CD/DVD tray is not opening, sorry to hear that. Do you have a CD or DVD in the drive by any chance? What is your operating system? What is your product number?

Find your product number on a notebook:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00033108

Finding your OS:

Thank you,

Re: dvd/cd is not working on Pavilion dv7

i have tried the steps of the automated fixit and it says a problem is there but cant fix it, so i tried the sfc /scannow and followed the device manager steps with a computer restart afterward and the DVD player is still not working. it says all drivers are up to date over the internet.  any other ideas would be appreciated.
