hp support assistant unable to view "important action needed".

The hp support assistant icon on the task bar, has a red exclamation circle on it.  However, when I click on it, all I see is the welcome screen.  How do I find out what "important action is needed"?

I have a HP Pavillion Touchsmart Sleekbook, product number C7F17AV, with Windows 8.

As per the details, I think you have not completed the configuration of the HP support assistant. Follow the link given below to get a better understanding about HP Support Assistant.

I downloaded the newest version.  However, the same thing occurs.  The Welcome page comes up, but the NEXT button is whited out, and I cannot access the settings button either. The only thing I can do is close the page.  So it appears to be downloaded, but will not let me complete the set up.

There will be some options that come up on the first page of HP Support Assistant setup page. Is all that options grayed out as well?

No it is not all grayed out.  I was able to find the home page, and found a wealth of information.  What a nice surprise!  I found the Updates section and will be able to find where and how to access the "important action needed" in the future.  I also found the User Guide, a hidden gem.  Let me know if I need to do anything else here, but I think it's working fine.
