I have this same problem on an HP netbook running WinXP.  I uninstalled Java from it, since I don’t need it on there.  I see no reason the wonderful folks at Oracle should have this sort of legacy error message after an uninstall.  Do I have to do a registry hack?

If you have updated your java to the most current it could be a settings issue within your browser.

Since this issue is not particular to HP you will need to post additional information for us to be able to provide assistance such as what browser you are using, which version of the browser and what operating system you are using.

Please feel free to re-post if you have any further questions or concerns we are here to help.

It's not a browser issue.  The red-X error dialog box pops up on the screen the first thing after (re)booting.  I updated to the latest Java (7.0.45) in hopes that it would have a cleaner uninstall.  But no dice.  I was hoping I wouldn't have to do a registry hack.  Java is. sadly, notorious for leaving crapware on the machine.  However, I did not have this problem with either my Win7 HP notebook or my Dell desktop at the office when I uninstalled it from there.  It's only an annoyance, but it is annoying.
