Hi,
My laptop is supposed to be 64bit capable.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&l
But when I try to install a 64bit copy of ubuntu on it the installer freezes or causes problems.!
And when I install a 32bit copy I get no probelms at all.

Have you tried a different 64bit Ubuntu Installation Disk? I know when you download and burn it you have to do that checksum verify and all that good stuff to make sure the disk is a good one. Maybe give it another shot or look on Ubuntu's website for troubleshooting tips for it's 64bit OS

Can you boot into the live environment?? I mean if you can load a live cd and use the system before installing on a hard drive..

This problem is not new to me,
I have been suffering from it since Karmic > lucid and now I am having it with Meerkat.
I am sure that I am using a vailed iso file and installation disc ( md5 check).
Thank you very much.

The installer freezes when creating ext4 file system.
Yes, I have tried installing using the alternate cd but it did not work as well.
Installer freezed.
I can install a 32bit copy of ubuntu using ext4 without having any problems.
Thank you.

It's a bug in the installer I guess. I have had once the same problem on Sabayon Weekly Build. When I tried to install a weekly build, it just froze when formatting the partitions. Next weekly build was OK, so I didn't bother with it anymore..
