7th or more DV9000 Motherboard... Replace or Refund request #16

we in phillipines don't rely on hp **bleep** laptop technicians, we rather go to a computer service center and get our hp laptop fixed than going to an hp center with **bleep** hp technicians. obviosly some technicians are more capable and more knowlegable in fixing hp computers than hp folks.

Ok... I have a DV9335NR that I bought in June 2007.  Really nice unit until the "blue non paged fault" screen started coming up.  Wound up being the Graphics card... same ol' Nvidca story.  So I searched online and found a source for NEW motherboards for this issue.  Same brand (HP) with same chipset... but at leaast it is a low cost alternative to fixing the issue.  Only cost me $149.00 as opposed to $600 to fix a pretty good laptop.  Mine lasted 3 years while enduring vigorous abuse and use in heat, cold, humidty etc.....  Now there are a lot of cheap fixes on ebay and the net.... don't even wast your time with the 30 day warranty you get with them... and besides it costs almost the same as the motherboard so just buy a new one!

Not sure how many that posted here still read this thread.  I just wanted to share quickly my little story.  Bought the DV9000 in Aug of 07, and now in July '10 had the black screen issue.  Did research found the additional warranty, phoned HP, and was told I was basically out of luck.  Thanks!  They sent me over to 'chat support'.  That was a total joke.  I think the guy was talking to either 9 of us, or me and his girlfriend, because he asked the same question about 3 different ways, over and over again.

So I did more research, and I fixed this thing myself.  It cost me about 3 minutes worth of electricity.  This might sound stupid and hard to believe , but it did work for me.  I took a hair dryer, put and started to heat up the touch pad in little circles.  I did this for about 2 minutes then I turned on the PC and still had the black screen with the blue lights, but just kept up on the hair dryer.  About 1.5 more minutes later, bingo!  The thing started to work again.  

Im sure this is by no means permanent, but it worked, and I would suggest you all try it too.  There are companies that will fix the issue by taking it apart and heating up the video card solders, but it will run you about $150.  This is essentially free.  Try it.

I have a laptop that was just over the $1000 price point, with a 17 in. widescreen display, that has a bad motherboard thanks to the BIOS. I have contacted HP, and they said it isn't covered by warranty, and that they didn't recall the laptops, they just did a service enhancement. It is not enhancing my service to sell me a high-end laptop with a faulty BIOS right out of the box, that caused my motherboard to break. It is the dv9429us model. This is no way for any company to treat customers, selling bad merchandise. When a car company sells crap, at least they recall it. HP should either refund my purchase, or fix it, not charge me to get something fixed that they broke.

Well this is really common on this model.  If your handy I made a video on how you can fix this GPU issue yourself. 

Its not super hard but if you follow the steps you will do fine.

**Remember the cooler it runs the longer it lasts so clean out the heat sinks and if possible get one of those Fan pads to sit it on.

I own a computer repair shop in a big Fl. city and I purchased a dv9500z 12/2009, the board has been steadily going out had to RMA it 1 time for a bios issue, everybody knows the issues with the GeForce Go Graphics GPU darn good if you live in N Alaska in a tent, I have seen at least 200 motherboards go out and a stock replacement is 360 dollars US, the bad part is mine which I need for my business I have taken very good care it looks new still last night I was installing the new ubuntu 12.14 and the Nivida driver the machine shut off from over heating and that fried the video.

Why don't HP have an upgraded motherboard for this machine ?
