Administrator access

I set up my daughter's laptop with me as an administrator - I now find that the laptop cannot install updates and I cannot install programmes, because the account I set up for me thinks  it is a user, not administrator.  No administrator account is showing on the login screen.  I stupidly renamed the administrator account to Mummy & Daddy - I can't rename my user account either???

Every time I try to do anything the screen asks me to type an administrator password to action the request. 

The laptop is slowing down with all the pending MS and java updates it can't install, and I can't get Dell to webchat me.  I am in Russia, so it is not practicable to phone them...
