After resetting security in BIOS Setup Laptop stops booting with "bios application error (501)"

On my EliteBook 8540W i've reset BIOS security to factory defaults, since the administrative passwort was lost. Now booting stops with the message    "bios application error (501)".

What does this mean? What is missing here?

Looks like there is some dependency between BIOS security and Win7 login. Can anybody point me some information on how this is supposed to work?

Hi,

The error indicates that the BIOS has been damaged. You have to re-flash the BIOS but it's not possible from Windows so you will have to use a live usb (or cd) of Hiren's BootCD and reflash it manually.

Re: After resetting security in BIOS Setup Laptop stops booting with "bios application error (

Hi pepe999

thanks for the reply.  I'm not  completely certain whether this is due to damaged BIOS.  After some attempts i see the notebook coming up normally sometimes, sometimes i get this error and can simply continue by hitting <enter>. Only twice it did not start up at all and i had to do a powercycle. Not  found a pattern yet.

So i will continue collecting information and  yes,i will try reflashing the bios.

Thnx again.

Find a post of a user TucsonJames and see what Vidya says. The first link explains the error, look for failure codes..
