Hello..
My HP Compaq Pavilon v6000 (v6109AU) keeps getting VERY hot, and the fan never (or rarely) kicks in. I looked around for BIOS updates and the newest one on the Compaq HP website is version F.3D. However, I am running version F.3E (I think it was installed when my laptop was being repaired).
According to the BIOS update, it will:
- Updates the fan control algorithm of the system to reduce the likelihood of future system issues.
- Fixes issue where the touchpad scroll function does not work on some notebooks.
- Fixes issue where the battery fails.
So obviously I'm interested, as if fixes the fan problem (and I suspect the battery failure, as it doesn't last long; possibly just old).
So should I "upgrade" (downgrade) to version F.3D or stay with F.3E (which apparently doesn't leave the fan running).
Thankyou,
~Harley

Upgrade, after first taking a look in your current BIOS and writing down the settings.
Upgrade via the product support page for your laptop.
Do not turn off power while the upgrade is in progress. Doing that will Brick your BIOS CMOS chip...not good at all

I seem to have the touchpad scrolling problem mentioned in the BIOS F.3D changes..
Though I've NEVER had this before =(
Guess I'll flash the BIOS.. Though why would they install F.3E if it doesn't include the changes that come with F.3D...?
EDIT: I just wrote down my BIOS info.. But had to reboot 3 times. Is it normal for the computer to switch off after a couple mins in BIOS mode..? Is there a time-limit or something like that, because when I'm in BIOS it doesn't stay on for that long.
Also, after re-booting the touchpad scroll works... o_O

Harley -
I have the exact same decision to make re: BIOS - I have the F.3E with a "rocket / noisey" like fan - did you flash the BIOS with F.3D, and did this cure the fan issue? I would really appreciate your feedback on this -
I have tried compressed air through the vents in the DV6000 without any difference...
- and hoping the BIOS flash will do the trick.
MANY THANKS,
Dave

No. It shouldn't switch off. make sure you have the ac adapter plugged in when upgrading BIOS. Perhaps your battery is low.
best regards.
