BIOS update - is it worthy or just plain dangerous?

Hello all,

I own a HP Dv6663 which came with Windows Vista Home Premium (I guess) and I succesfully downgraded to Windows XP Professional. Checking CMOS setup I found that installed BIOS is F.22 and I found the latest to be F.32. So, two questions:

1) is BIOS updating worth the (dangerous) trouble?

2) if so, how can I update it from Windows XP?

Thanks in advance,

Gustavo

You should read through the fixes and make the choice.  Check and see what OS versions of the flash utility are available.
Pavilion DV7-1285dx Notebook, Windows 7 64bit, Intel X2 P8600 2.40GHz, Nvidia GeForce 9600M, 6GB RAM, 2x 500GB HD(s)

Re: BIOS update - is it worthy or just plain dangerous?

Hi,

It's worth I think. Last update for Your model is with comment:

"Improves the performance of the SD card reader."

Your Biose was updated 10 times from Yours so there was a huge number of changes.

Your Bios updates through WinFlash so You are doing it in Your Windows system. Remember befor You will start this update switch off any firewall or antivirus and obviously don't be connected to Internet couse You will switch off all Your defence mechanisms (internet defence software). When You will start it just follow the steps.

Be sure that You are runing Bios update for Your model. If You are not sure give us Your p/n number it's under Your computer and looks like this. Then we will give You link to Your Bios update.

Re: BIOS update - is it worthy or just plain dangerous?

Hi,

I'm not sure where to look for the Bios update, so if you can help out it'll be very nice!

Service tag reads:

Dv6663 ## just that, no letters after the number

p/n: GS804UA#ABA

This WinFlash utility can be run under XP or just Vista?

Thanks in advance!
