Hi,
I have the laptop: Compaq Presario F730US (AMD Athlon 64 bit), it came with Vista Home Premium 64 bit, I made it dual boot with XP Professional(32bit). After nearly a year, Suddenly it powered down and "NO DISPLAY, even on external Monitor, NO fan running, no caps lock and num lock no hdd light, ram ok, hdd ok, CD Rom ok, and powers on and off intermittently continuously". Site says bios problem and needs Bios update, but as the bios is an exe i am unable to reflash the bios as the laptop is not booting. It is dead. I took it to local service center they suspect board problem and charges hefty amount. HP does not guide on how to reflash the bios with CD/USBDisk.
Last 15 days I have seen two other notebooks ending up with the same problem, for one as I tried to update with latest bios dowloaded as the screen was displaying only lines often during setup / within OS when working. This is a horrowing experience i am having with HP, AMD processor based laptops.
Can sombody help me, to load(reflash) the bios with CD/USB Disk.
Thanks in advanse.
Raj

If the pc is operational at all this tip might work if you know a little about DOS commands to switch between drives, etc?
Search google for a Windows PE boot disc (PE - Pre-Execution Environment, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc76609
Windows PE loads into memory. Then switch to the cd drive and try to run the BIOS update.
We use a modified version of Windows PE to image server's at work.

My F730 have exact same problem as yours, I disassemble every thing, and assemble again, it works. So you are cheated by HP.
I will not buy anything from HP any more.

Hello all, I have the same problem.
Mine occured right after a windows up date. the unit never rebooted after the last update several days ago. I pulled out the hard drive and tested it, it is working fine. I have tried the original xp program disk to try to boot from it and that does not work.
btw. I converted to xp after about one year on the vista software.. gees lots of problems with vista...
anyone have a solution.
