Disk drive took a poop - installed a new one. Don't have recovery disks so bought new OS - windows 7 (old one was Vista). When the system comes up, it recognizes the new disk and recognizes my dvd drive, but no matter what I put in the dvd drive, I get the Reboot and change boot drive or insert Boot Media (or something very similar). When I run the diagnostics, it tells me there's a BIOHD3 error - no boot drive detected. If it recognizes my new HDD & my DVD drive, why can't it find the boot files on the new Windows 7 install disk?

I also experienced this message ("Boot Device Not Found") for my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook. I'm not sure if it is a hard drive issue or an operating system issue. I tried to boot from an external hard drive and the same error comes up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Tests have come back with the following:
"Hard Disk Test" Failed
"Hard Disk 1 QUICK" (303)
"Hard Disk 1 FULL" (305)

Hi,
No, I don't think that you have lost anything. The MBR is probably corrupted so this is why it can't find boot device. Remove the hard drive and connect it to a different computer as an external storage or another disk on a desktop. I believe that all data are still in there and accessible..
I recommend to do backup, reformat entire hard drive and restore the factory settings by recovery disks if there are any..

Hi Everyone!
I am an IT assistant at Ripon College and we had a HP Pavilion G6 come in twice now with the same problem. Not to fret its not a huge issue. You didnt lose anything nor do you have any problems with your files. Just flip your computer over and take the back cover off. On this particular model it is 2 little screws than it is like a pop top you have to like snap it off gently. Once you do that take the hard drive out and reinsert it. Both times we have done that it has fixed the problem. I am currently researching if this is an issue with HP laptops built within the last year and a half. Hope that helps.
