Clarification on instructions for Cyberlink sp44645 utility

Can somebody clarify the instructions for creating and using the sp44645 utility that's recommended for resolving issues with HP recovery discs after installation of a new hard drive?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm not sure how to respond to the Yes-No-Cancel prompt when the drive is being created.  When I responded Yes, my machine appeared to start to reboot, as though it was going to run the utility on (YIKES ! !) my machine.  I powered down immediately, removed the disc, and powered back up.  I then tried running that disc in the machine I'm trying to recover, but I got I/O errors from the DVD drive.

I next tried creating the disc again, but this time I responded No to the prompt, at which point my machine ejected the disc.  I popped it back in, opened it in Explorer, and confirmed that there were files present.  However, I got the same I/O errors on the DVD drive when I tired to boot up with this disc in the target machine.

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the target machine's DVD drive - I successfully used it to boot up a Linux recover disc just to check things out, and I also used it to boot up and run a disk eraser utility to clear the hard drive of any potential remnants from previous attempts.

Consequently, I'm thinking I'm not doing something right when creating the sp44645 disc.  Sooooooooo, can somebody clarify those steps for me?

Thanks,

Re: Clarification on instructions for Cyberlink sp44645 utility

The Cyberlink sp44645 utility is for consumer desktops but not notebooks to my knowledge.

For performing Recovery on a notebook with Recovery disks, please refer the following weblink:

Re: Clarification on instructions for Cyberlink sp44645 utility

Ummm, Viddy, the whole reason I was going through all the crap with the Cyberlink program in the first place is because the standard recovery procedure isn't working.  I had to replace the hard drive, and my understanding was that Cyberlink's program was the workaround for the scenario where hardware replacement prevented the HP recovery discs from working.

Since, according to you, that only applies to desktops, what do we do for laptops?

Re: Clarification on instructions for Cyberlink sp44645 utility

Me siento estafado.
