Compaq Presario CQ61-305SA - Computer Screen is Blank.

Hi!

Is there anybody out there that can help me!!!! I bought a Compaq Presario CQ61-305SA

back in November 2009. It has just gone out of Warranty, and when i switch it on the screen

stays Black, nothing boots up. I have only used it about 3 times, now i can't use it at all.

It has 2 flashing lights, one where the Caps Lock Key is and the other is where the Num Lock

Key is. When i have looked on the Compaq website for their error codes, its looking like the

CPU has gone (hope this isn't true)!!! Wondering if i need a recovery disk.

Can anyone help??? Who do i need to spk to?? Where do i get a recovery Disk from.

Try a hard reset.

remove the battery

unplug the AC power plug from the laptop

press and hold the power button for thirty seconds.

plug in the External Power plug (leave the battery off for now)

press the power button.

Does it boot into Windows now?

re: Recovery discs.. You should have made them from the Recovery Manager on you laptop quite some time ago. I am sure the laptop itself asked you about making them before.

If it boots up you can still make a set and otherwise you can purchase a set at a reasonable cost from HP.

HI,

At this stage a recovery cd set will do nothing for you.

How many times do the leds blink when you attempt a boot into Windows?

Have you gone through this entire checklist yet?

The lights blink once, which on the Compaq website, its stating that it is the CPU!

Am gutted really, coz i tried to switch it on a couple of months ago, and it was the

same then, and it was in Warranty. I just left it, coz i get busy at home. Do you

think it is going to cost a lot to fix???? Its like it is in a sleep/hibernation mode,

but doesn't seem to move from that!!!!

Try removing the memory modules, putting them back in the same slots and trying a restart.

Can you hear the fan even try to  twitch to life?

You are probably going to have to take it to a shop or send it in to HP for repair. The lattter will hurt your checking account less.

Start your notebook in a darkened room and shine a flashlight  on the notebook's display. Do yoou faintly see a Windows desktop?

Do you have a desktop display that you can plug in as an external display?  

That way you will be sure that Windows is working.

I have been trying to backup my laptop to a portable hard drive and the backup program stalls in the "making shadow copy" mode and times out.  How do I prevent this so backing up C drive is possible?
