Computer stuck on the very first screen

The system come originally with vista home premium 64bit ,after that I installed red hat Linux 4.5 ,so Linux formatted the partition which has operating system installed but recovery partition was still there and I doesn’t do anything with that , few days I used Linux and also installed windows 7 ultimate 32bit .when I started the computer the first screen is like hp logo on the middle and on the lower left side it was written (press esc key for startup menu ) that is normal i have seen this since i bought it ,after that second screen came which has 2 option no.1 is Linux and no.2 is windows. Every thing was going on well. After using both operating systems few days I decided to go back on the factory installed operating system so I restarted the computer and press esc to enter in the startup menu for system recovery( here I want to mention that once I used system recovery because when  my vista was running slow due to many software installed so I used system recovery to installed a fresh copy of  vista, and I enjoyed it till I installed linux so I was familiar of system recovery) well I press esc to enter into startup menu and then press F9 key that’s for system recovery but this time the computer  screen goes where it gives option to run windows or Linux. So I decided to recovery system from its recovery dvd . System recovery run successfully and system restarted and vista screen came and its going to startup then suddenly a message came that windows doesn’t installed correctly try to reinstall it . then I try to install it from the startup menu (now I know system is formatted so option screen will not come ) then I press F9 and system recovery started ,again same thing happen vista welcome screen came and going to start suddenly it give the same error and when I restarted it computer comes to the 1st screen (that is hp logo in the middle and on the left lower side press esc key for startup menu ) and not going ahead at all also not entering into startup menu and also not reacting against any dvd or cd. I don’t know why my laptop is stuck on the first screen and if u try to enter esc key or any key again and again it beeps but doesn’t react. When press ctrl+alt+del it restart that it. My stuck laptop affects my studies. Please define me some solution.

Re: Computer stuck on the very first screen

first i suppose you don't have any data on your H.D.D

secondly check if those recovery DVD you have it are in working state (As we are now going to perform destructive Installation)

This might be happening due to bad or wrong boot sector installed on your PC & somehow its affecting your PC to boot into Vista,.(maybe system recovery was not performed properly)

Step 1: Turn the HP computer completely off.

Step 2: Turn the computer back on, and immediately begin to repeatedly tap the "F9" key on the keyboard.

Step 3: Boot your HP computer with Recovery DVD Disc 1.

Step 4: Choose the "Advanced" option on the recovery menu, then select "Destructive System Recovery." Choose "Next."

Step 5: Choose "Yes" to confirm that you wish to perform a Destructive System Recovery. This process will utilize data stored on a hidden hard drive partition to reinstall Windows, along with all of the HP software that was originally included with the computer.

Note: This method is going to Delete All the partition from HP computer & recreate Recovery Partition, then Restore Vista from recovery Partition.

Re: Computer stuck on the very first screen

this sounds like your HDD is dead or on dead state....

goto Bios settings press F10 when you see HP Logo

Do a H.D.D self test to confirm if HDD is working properly...

reply with result, will tell you wht to do next (as i don't won't to confuse you by saying next step)

Re: Computer stuck on the very first screen

Dear sir when my hdd is intact computer never load ahead from the 1st screen that is hp logo on the middle. when i remove the harddisk from the computer . it moves forward from the 1st screen and says no operating system is found. and also it is going into bios .i perform memmory check and it was succesfully completed but i  cant perform self check of hard disk coz it only goes into bios when harddisk is removed from the comuter.

here what i have done is i make a bootable usb of linux operating system and try to boot my other computer from that usb and also remove its orginal harddrive and try to start thar computer from usb and it was working fine ,so i remove my harddisk of laptop and start it ,it boots ahead from the 1st screen and say no operating system is found( becoz there was no hardrive installed) so i change the bootup settings and boot the laptop from usb and it is working and rite now i am using linux ubuntu 9.04 and responding u from it . i Know its not a complete.....

ok suppose my harddrive is dead then why it is hanging on the first screen , it is not responding against F9,F10 esc it do nothing. if harddrive was damage then it react against these bios function but in this case it is not responding against bios function and also not booting from harddrive or load operating system . i wish i could have anoother harddrive so i can replace and check wheather its a harddrive problem or something else....

Thanks for the advice sir

Re: Computer stuck on the very first screen

Hi. I have the almost exact same problem! But when I load my Window's 7 Home Preminum laptop, I get to type in my password, and then I get stcuk there. The laptop doesn't do anything. I've tried to scan my laptop, but the Hard Drive Test failed. What's the problem with my computer, and how can I fix it? Is it fixable by formatting my laptop again? Is there anyway to make my computer work again? I think that one of my hard disks are broken. Does that mean that I have to go to a store and fix it, therefore having to pay money? Please help. There's to many problems with this laptop!

Re: Computer stuck on the very first screen

This happens on both my new Compaq and my new HP. Try booting with nothing attached, no USB devices, or even charger. This always works for me. I was trying to find an actual solution when I came accross this thread.

I will update if I really fix the problem, but there are no hardware faults(at least in my systems)
