Computer will not start for over a week now. Windows 7. Run startup repair, after an hour finally get to reboot and it starts and runs just fine. Adjusted SuperFetch and purged its files as suggested on one site. Checked Normal startup box as suggested on another site. Uninstalled a few programs I put on recently to see if that was hangup. Seems to have all started after I had to add Itunes to update my att phone.

So is it running fine now? or does this problem happen over and over again?

Over and over. Thought I had it fixed after rebooting but no. Very frustrating. I have checked, unchecked and gone to so many help pages that I can't even remember what all I have tried.

In the bios there are tools to test the hard drive and memory, run the tests and report back any errors or messages.

by bios do you mean under system & Security on control panel? going to cking for performance issues it brought up set to autorun programs on startup. I have played with this but didn't change anything.

When you start the PC press F10 repeatedly until the system setup (bios) loads, this is long before windows loads.
Once in the bios use the arrow keys to navigate to the bios section with hardware diagnostics and run them.

Ran the primary hard disk self test and the memory test and both passed. Thanks for the suggestion! Wondering if I shouldn't uncheck all the start up programs and try process of elimination?

I don't think startup programs are causing it not to boot, but you can try it.
Was there an extended test for the hard drive? Did you run it?

I don't know why this is happening or what to do about it, its a strange problem I have never run into before, sorry I could not help.
