Re: DV2000 CTO and Windows 7 upgrade

nycbubba2,

No to worry.  I will not be be able to try the upgrade for several weeks, once my daughter visits.  I

have been researching this to be best prepared.

I wanted to also take this opportunity with this ask the experts day.

It appears I may have some success.  It is disappointing that you have not had complete success yet.

I am looking forward to trying it.

Perhaps the experts monitoring today will be able to guide you to success.

I will be watching these threads with a great deal of interest.

Cheers,

Mark

Vidya,

I have a dv2000t and everything is working in Windows 7 except for my sound.  It says no sound driver is available and won't play or even let me turn up the volume.  Can you help me?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: DV2000 CTO and Windows 7 upgrade

[ Edited ]

On my DV2810us, I went to Control Panel, opened Windows Updates and chose to see 'additional or optional' updates. There I had Conexant Audio to select to install. Works for me.

I am also using_HP Quick Launch Buttons here

I have also used this Conexant on another installation HERE

As a 'Superuser' here at the forum I have done the Win 7 install several times in different ways to troubleshoot issues members are having.None have been impossible to solve thus far.

On an 'Upgrade' of Vista, which is the subject of Seattlerain's post_ I uninstalled HP Quick Launch first, upgraded to 7 and then installed the Quick Launch driver above.Everything else just worked.

On another 'clean' install  I was pleasantly surprised at all of the drivers included for my hardware. Shortly into the install my Wireless suddenly turned blue and I was later prompted if I wanted to connect to my router.

Drivers missing were Conexant Audio ,Card Reader, coprocessor and Nvidia graphics. A quick run of Windows Update from Control Panel installed Nvidia and Conexant Audio. I installed coprocessor and Card Reader from my SwSetup folder which I had copied to external hdd before formatting. Also got Quick Play and Cyberlink DVD Suite installed from there.

Re: DV2000 CTO and Windows 7 upgrade

Hello All,

I am well along in upgrading Win7 on my dv2000.  These various links and suggestions have been a really big help.

One problem early on was the battery and power management.

Under Win7, the symbol on the status bar shows power from line, 100% charged, with a red "X" and it recommended to

replace the battery.  When I disconnect the power plug, the PC shortly goes down, as if the battery was dead.  The battery was working fine under WnXP.  I have been hoping that with the various driver upgrades

and installs, it would resolve itself, but so far, it has not.

Any ideas?

I am thinking that the battery management driver needs updating?

Many thanks,

Mark

@seattlerain

Have you gone to Control Panel and manually run Windows Updates, choosing to see all optional updates to select as well?

What does your Device Manager look like_any entries with errors? Since you can only  clean install to get from XP to Win 7, you may need Nvidia Chipset and some others installed.

Please locate the Service Tag on bottom of your laptop_Check for complete model number as shown in section 1 below, and post it.P/N in section 2 will be most helpful:

Re: DV2000 CTO and Windows 7 upgrade

[ Edited ]

CherylG,

Good questions.

I did a clean install from WinXP to Win7.  After several window updates, installing optional

drivers (especially Nvidia chipset), as well as following the very helpful guide elsehwere on this forum

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Operating-systems-and-software/Windows7-Upgrade-Guide-for-dv2000/m-p/18...

there are no longer any errors in the device driver.

Most everything appears to be running OK.  I like what I am seeing, but the battery life and

power management is a show stopper to solve.

Searching some on breaks at work, I found a couple of ideas to try this evening, wiht the battery and

power management drivers.

I will post the complete model number this evening.

What I do have:

Product:   BU IDS FF UMA DV2100

S/N:          <text removed for privacy>

P/N:          RD140AV#ABA

Many thanks!

Re: DV2000 CTO and Windows 7 upgrade

I have looked at the service tag and this is all that was on it.

Product:   BU IDS FF UMA DV2100

S/N:          <text removed for privacy>

P/N:          RD140AV

In the device manager, I uninstalled the

Microsoft AC Adapter    (device working properly)

Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (device working properly)

could not unistall the

Microsoft Composite Battery  (device working properly)

Cycled power and these re-installed again.

This action did not clear the problem (red x in the battery).

Continuing to troubleshoot.......

Thanks.

Re: DV2000 CTO and Windows 7 upgrade

Further info from primary user of laptop, the battery has in fact been "dead"for some time.  Have put in a different

battery and red "x" is now gone and appears to be charging properly.

All the drivers and functionality appear to be operating normally.

I have noticed upon Shut Down, the display will flash intermittently, for 8-10 seconds and

then enter a normal Win7 Shut Down.  Not sure if this is normal or not.

I will continue to configure and load up the laptop and monitor how the battery charging,

discharging operates.

Thanks,

Mark

Re: DV2000 CTO and Windows 7 upgrade

Success!!

I happy to report that the upgrade, via clean install, has gone OK.

I upgraded the hard disc from 80G to 160G as part of this upgrade and also used Acronis backup

software for the transition.

It appears that the quick launch keys are funtioning correctly.

Windows7 patches and installs went well.

Display, wireless, Ethernet, functioning correctly.

From start up to shut down, now working smootly.

Battery charging and monitroing appear to functioning correctly.  Battery drain appears

to be normal, based upon only one day of observation.

I believe the key point to this successful install was using the advice from several people,

primarily

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Operating-systems-and-software/Windows7-Upgrade-Guide-for-dv2000/m-p/18...

Many thanks to the several contributors helping with solutions to the various issues involving sourcing drviers, etc.

Mark
