Well the junk samsung drive the laptop came with is dead. I have a new WD drive ready to go but no way to install the OS as no OS disk/Diaks was provided. I do have the licence rights to said OS, or in this case Operating Systems. Just no way to get it on the drive.
This laptop in question was purchased at the very tail end of vista. It came with an upgrade offer for 7 which my son, the user currently in College, took advantage of. He did, I know, make the recommended backup disk or disks (for Vista) the day after he got the laptop. He now has no earthly idea where that backup effort is. He did again, upon using the hp 7 upgrade disk do a backup prior to the actual upgrade, but said it containg only personal files
What I have now:
A fully functioning HP DV7 sans hard drive and the battery which died after about 6 months.
The Windows 7 home premium upgrade media disk HP sent.
The MS sticker on the laptop with the Vista product key.
A 500 gig 2.5 inch drive with no operating system.
Any help would be most appreciated as I am out of options, and Hp could not care less.

Hi,
You can order a replacement set of the original Vista Recovery Discs using the link below - Install Vista using these ( you shouldn't even need to enter your license key ) and then use the upgrade disc to get back to Windows 7.

If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
