DVD RWAD-7701 H Firmware 2.85 windows7 64bit

When I insert a DVD it doesn't respond and says there is no disc in it. Ran the test and it passed the write part and the read part with a program disc, but not a DVD What is wrong with it? I have tried the auto fixes and no results. They say there it an issue, but not what the issue is.

My machine is a HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook

OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

AMD Phenom11N620 Dual Core

The problem might be related to the optical drive Firmware.

If there isn't any update on the product page, there's nothing else you can try, except to replace the drive.

The power of the laser to read a CD and a DVD are diferent, the physical structure of these discs are different, and you can have a optical drive that reads CD's and not DVD's.

You can try to remove the drive from device manager, remove any recording software and check if there is a firmware update on the product page.

ALso, you can try to read those DVD's in command prompt, outside windows, see if you can view the DVD content in that way.

One question, what type of information or DVD are you using? Original DVD movies? Copied DVD's? Please explain the media type used...
