Data recovery tool stops running and closed without restoring the data.

I used the HP Recovery to restore my PC back to the factory base.  I first used the tool to back up by data to an external drive.  This completed successfully.  I restored the operating system successfully.  I have now tried to restore the data twice.  Each time it creates the folders, the status shows it reading through the files thought the % complete stays at 0%.  I see the disk drive lights flashing on both the external and laptop disk drives.  The software runs for a couple of hours like this and then a message appears saying the program has stopped working.  Laptop is HP, about 3 years old.  Lots of drive space and memory.

The reason I had to restore is I was getting a IRQL not less than message, which seemed to be driver corruption or some possible hardware issues.

I would check the target folder size to see if there is any filling. Also

I would try to read and copyfile the external backup onto internal to check out the devices .

I tried this and the results were no different, except I looked at the folders while they were being written to. The files appreared and then faded from view. I then looked at properties and it shows a file count and the space used. So it seems the files are there but not visible. Anyone with ideas?

I am having the same problem!  I tried calling Cyberlink for help and that was 2 hours I'll never get back. I have 5 DVDs worth of data and I can't get it restored.

HP/Cyberlink, this is now way to treat your customers.

I got no help, but I found other third party tools (free) that could read and uncompress the backup.  I then picked and chose the files and did it manually.  I was/am very unhappy with the support for the origional tool.  Hope this helps.
