Hi,

1.First make Vista recovery CD/DVD before downgrade.

Resource:

Using HP Backup and Recovery Manager in Vista

2.Now You will need to slipstream Sata drivers (ICH9M).

Resource:

SATA drivers for XP (solution on 0x0000007B BSOD)

3.All drivers are posted in below reply.

Re: Downgrade Compaq Presario CQ61-120EI from Vista to XP

Hello. I have downgraded my CQ61-115ES to XP thanks to your instructions.

All run fine, except the sound. I have not sound. I have attempted with Conexant HD audio as you write, but no effect. My device has e yellow mark with "Device cannot to start - Code 10". I have attempted with lot of drivers from IDT High Definition Audio.

Almost, the Windows Update Service, detect the ausent driver and download the IDT Codec Audio HD, but no sound too.

Any ideas?

Regards.

Hi,

Having recently bought a Presario CQ61-204SF and wanting to install Windows XP SP3 on it instead of Vista (which was pre-installed), you helped me a lot with this thread !!
All worked fine, even audio (I used sp41693, sp41698 did not fit), and used successfully sp39403 for Atheros wireless.
By the way, XP already recognised webcam, touchpad and usb port, so I did not need any specific drivers (do I miss enhanced performance?)
I did not install either "intel matrix storage manager" nor "hp quick launch buttons" (am i wrong with that?)

The only drawback I encountered was during the boot: reluctant to use the cd-rom (don’t want to waste a cd), I configured a usb key with Windows XP SP2 installation - including the SATA drivers you mentioned (ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller) - this being done with nLite (SATA drivers) and PeToUSB (iso->usb, don't forget to move txtsetup.sif to the root directory and to rename the directory minint to $WIN_NT$.~BT or you’ll meet error code 18 on boot).
Then during the boot, XP asked to insert the Windows installation cd-rom... I did not find how to bypass that with usb, so I finally "burned" a CDRW!

Thanks again for the drivers tips, all' working like a charm now!

Cheers.
