hi daniel,
thanks for the reply.
yes, i have reordered the boot sequence, but the disc is not booting.
when the laptop powers up, i get the message "press any key to boot from CD"...
upon pressing the space bar, it will go into a red coloured Compaq splash screen momentarily before going back to the "press any key to boot from CD" message again.... and so on and so forth.
i created my boot disc using Windows XP Home Edition incl service pack 2 with nLite.
is there anyway i can double check this disc to make sure that i have created it properly?
many thanks for your help.

Use other original "vergin" Windows XP CD/DVD and go through slipstreaming process again.
This XP copy which You are using now may be corrupted.

@cq61
Hi,
You've got CQ61-340EV right? So this model have Bios updates which are made for Windows 7 and Vista system.
You may find them all here in Bios category.
How to update Bios?
First check which Bios version you've got now. This information may be very helpful if ther will be any problem.
Connect the notebook to the AC power supply.
Disconnect from the internet. Exit from all programs that you are running. Disable anti-virus and firewall.
Execute the Bios update exe file. It may take some time. Allow the notebook to restart after applying the updated BIOS.
While this update is running do not:
- switch off your laptop,
- disconnect AC power supply,
- try to run any software or do anything on it .
Bios update is always very risky and may corrupt your notebook. So be careful and have full patience. You will perform this update at your own risk.

Hi,
1.First create a set of recovery discs:
Using HP Backup and Recovery Manager in Vista
2.Slipstream the Sata driver into the XP.
SATA drivers for XP (solution on 0x0000007B BSOD)
3.The drivers for XP you will find in the link below:
