Accepted Solution

Downgrade to Windows XP Pro x86 Sp2, from Vista Home Premium 64bit

Though I tried, I simply can not work with Windows Vista. I must downgrade to Windows XP.

I have a new HP HDX X18t laptop with a Core 2 Duo T9600 cpu @ 2.80ghz (with Intel's latest corresponding chipset?)
4gb ddr3 ram
Hewlett-Packard Bios F.20, 1/5/2008
SM Bios version 2.4
Hardware Abstraction Layer version = "6.0.6002.18005"

It has the factory option dual-hard drive setup. I have removed the factory C: and will save it for way later. I then moved
the 2nd hard drive in place of where the C: used to be. Set the boot-up to boot from the dvd drive for a fresh XP with sp2 install.
This laptop is preventing me from installing Windows XP, XP with sp2, XP with sp3, even XP with Vista Theme.
I have the factory supplied Vista Home Premium 64bit dvd disc, and yes this will install FLAWLESSLY from start to finish
with NO problem at all. Both of the hard drives are sata2. I have tried installing XP with versions with the special sata drivers
included in the install cd. No go. Even fabricated several versions of XP with sp2 with the sata drivers "streamlined" into
the install cd. Same thing. No go. (no go=blue screen of death)

Below is the error message (blue screen of death) that keeps showing up on all attempts of my XP installs,

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed
hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive
to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then
restart your computer.

Technical Information:
***Stop:0x0000007b (0xf78d2524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Well, at least I know the hard drive is properly configured and terminated, cause the Vista
os will install very easily and quickly with no problem whatsoever. Both 64 and 32 bit versions
of any Vista os will install very easily and quickly on this laptop.
I really do not want or plan to play around with the bios, cause I might end up with a fried motherboard.
I will gladly listen to any solution/suggestion from anybody who can help me with the XP install.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Downgrade to Windows XP Pro x86 Sp2, from Vista Home Premium 64bit

Thank you for replying.

I have a HP HDX18 laptop (custom ordered and built).

The label at the bottom has this information:

p/n:  NK148AV

s/n:  CNF9161ZT8

If successful in installing Windows XP, I will also add

a 2nd hard drive and trim down the ram to 3gb.

I have already download most of the needed drivers

for a 32bit os and burned it into a cd.

Re: Downgrade to Windows XP Pro x86 Sp2, from Vista Home Premium 64bit

How to install XP on Your model:

First make Vista beckup. All informations how to do it here.

Now You need to slipstream Your Sata drivers (only ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller) with nLite.

Here is guide how to do it and here are Sata drivers  for You. Just unrar this drivers with winrar.

Be sure also that You are using WinXP SP2 version. If you haven't got SP2 version here you can download this service pack

and here You have got guide how to slipstream this file with Your system again by nLite.

In this program You can even burn Your new XP cd with this driver.

Re: Downgrade to Windows XP Pro x86 Sp2, from Vista Home Premium 64bit

YES.  It finally did it.

I was successful in installing Windows XP Professional with SP2

and the streamlined sata drivers attached to the install disc.

I was using nLite incorrectly before, reson for the repeated failure

with the XP installation.  Working on the drivers now.

Thank you VERY, VERY MUCH for the help.  You the man.
