Before you attend to downgrade it, suggest you do: 1. Create a recovery DVD. 2. Purchase another new Hard-disk to downgrade to XP.
My experience on CQ40-127TU when boot up on XP it gets a blue screen and unable to start XP. It also doesnt have XP drivers for CQ40. I guess Compaq is really a sickening machine and headache for all.
First I unable to Boot up via XP - so dont even think of downgrading to XP.
Second I unable to do full recover on a new hard-disk, at the end of the recovery process, I had an error message "1002 please contact HP".
Give up.

Hi Emiltheman
I'm not so familiar with this model, AMD Sempron processor + NVIDIA GeForce 8200M ? New notebook specification for me.
I see it from product specification here
From your Vista driver, it was listed NVidia chipset, the current drivers in XP should be able to identify your harddisk
However, please let us know if you had BSOD when installing XP.
____
Drivers for CQ60-113EO
NVidia Chipset,(install and reboot before other drivers), here
NVIDIA GeForce 8200
Nvidia ForceWare X 179.28 for Windows XP/2K 32bit, here
3-step process to install:
1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
3. Install & reboot.
or you may try other versions, joint their forum for further details

Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains.

Rainbow, CQ40 model use IDT sound chip that driver is the main problem of CQ40 users
You got BSOD because of sata driver was not slipstreamed correctly.
I help many CQ40 & CQ45 users to install XP, however mostly I recommend them to stay with VISTA first.
If XP is very essential to your applications, I recommed NOT to buy CQ40 and CQ45, both model of Presario notebook use IDT sound chip.
However, CQ20, CQ60, CQ70 models are relatively easy for XP installation.
Pavilion DV2922TX, XP-SP3 32bit, Intel T5750 2.0Ghz, Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS with 128MB, 4GB 667 DDR2, 250GB HDD
