Re: Downgrading Vista to XP on a HDX18-1180US

You may always check Your temps with Everest or HWMonitor.

Try also this 179.32 drivers for Hp/Compaq and drivers from Nvidia 179.48 and 179.28  and 185.81 (this driver is not the same as this which i gave You earlier)

Re: Downgrading Vista to XP on a HDX18-1180US

I just received my HDX16 and am interested in downgrading to Win XP32 (mainly because of the look of Vista but also because my Palm Tungsten T5 will not sync with Win Vista 64 bit using a USB cable).

I'm concerned about going ahead with it because I can't seem to figure out how I'd reinstall the HP Applications that come pre-installed on the laptop under the Vista installation. There weren't any application disks and the recovery disks I made seem aimed only at restoring the computer back to factory fresh (w/ Vista again).

Does anyone know how I could get these applications reinstalled after I downgrade to XP as shown in this thread?

Also, what applications will not work in Win XP32?

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Downgrading Vista to Xp on a HDX16-1140US Premium

Specifications for HDX X16-1140US here and specifications for X18-1180US here.

I must tell You also then on some machines from HDX series there are problems with graphic drivers for XP. They will install without any problem but for some users they don\t work correctly. There are some kind of dots on the screen and horizontal lines. Normally it's for 100% problem with GPU, but the strange thins is then it's working ok in Vista and problems are only in XP.

I just want to inform You about this situation but it doesn't prove then You will also fail. Some users haven't got any problems.

Just remember about Vista backup. How to do it all informations here.

If there will be any problems You will have possibility getting back to Vista.

Re: Downgrading Vista to XP on a HDX18-1180US

I just wanted to thank everyone for their hard work in tracking down all those drivers - I am posting here while running XP Pro on my HDX18, and I could not have done it without your assistance; THANK YOU ALL!

I did have one question, though; is there any free application I can install, from AverMedia, or what have you, that will let me use my ATSC tuner card that this rig came with? I've found a couple of apps that the tuner works with (Easy HDTV DVR and BeyondTV), but they are only trials, and I don't feel as if I should have to pay for software that enables the full functionality of the machine, since I already *did* pay for it under Vista, and our hosts at HP have decided to not let MediaSmart function under XP. (Which also irritates me just a bit - Vista Ultimate is an OS that has full downgrade rights, according to MSFT, yet here we are bravely trying to exercise those rights, with absolutely no help fro HP whatsoever - except that they host this message board; gee, thanks...)

Anyway, if anyone has found HDTV tuner software (for free) that will work, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again! -Bob
