Extremely Slow Startup, Slow Processing, and Audio/Video Stuttering

I have a HP dv8000 notebook, which suddenly began to have problems yesterday.  It started running very slowly, so I restarted it.

The computer took several minutes to shut down.  When I tried to turn it back on, it booted up very slowly - 20 minutes to the desktop.  It continued to run slowly.

I managed with the slowness, and tried to watch a video - no audio played, and it told me that there were no mixers installed.  I fixed this audio problem by uninstalling some of the audio drivers and re-installing them.  The audio now works, but both audio/video stutter very badly.

I cancelled a lot of startup programs in an effort to fix the lagging boot-up - But it is still taking half an hour anytime I restart the computer.

Everything is working sluggishly, but the worst is the boot-up taking over half an hour.

I have run spybot and symantec anti-virus, both of which have found nothing.

Any ideas as to what my problem might be?  Hopefully I have provided enough information.:smileyhappy:
