Re: General Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for HP Laptops

Have you tried running Windows Update manually from Control Panel, choosing to see the Optional updates.Nvidia graphics is usually offered there.

You can try the one under Level 3 of the guide.

Nvidia Geforce go 7 and 6 series

179.48_32bit

Re: General Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for HP Laptops

In some models INF modified is needed, here or here

just download IND modified and paste it to installation file C:\Nvidia\...

or better try newer version

For GeForce Release 197.16, here 32bit and here 64bit

Run installer first, if it fail try 3-step process to install:

1. Download driver, double click and select extract,

2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,

3. Install & reboot.

Re: General Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for HP Laptops

hey, the nvidia think really helped....but it resulted in my graphic card crashing!!! i spent 8000rs on it!! the engineer said the problem is with nvidia... should i try another driver with the nvidia card? is there a way to prevent this crashing of the graphic card in future.

i also was using the hibernation mode which proved fatal!

i dont want to replace the card agin after 1 year. please advise.

thanks

p.s. i am quite dissapointed with HP though for giving me a model like this. why did they even make a defective piece in the first place?

Re: General Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for HP Laptops

So sorry about your notebook, Nvidia issue indeed toasted many Win7 upgraders.

This issue had been noted in our guide,

3. Notebooks with Nvidia GPU are highly recommend to check GPU temperature before doing Windows 7 upgrade since most  2 year old notebooks suffer dust that prevent proper cooling process by internal fan.

Nvidia GPUs/Chipsets are sensitive, it needs proper cooling process. HP has released BIOS update to prevent it but it wont fixed the issue if you already have it. Use your notebook always with cooling pad and NO GAMES at all.

About Nvidia driver, AFAIK, only 196.75 having problem, here

Re: General Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for HP Laptops

Hi, I have a HP DV2 and is shipped in Vista Home Premium 32bit.

I have received the Windows 7 upgrade CD. I realized there's a recovery partition on my DV2 labelled D:\

My question is, will I be able to restore it back to Vista's image by hitting F11 on boot after I have done a clean installation into Win 7 via the upgrade CD?

Thanks!

@rummytub

Burn your Vista Recovery Disk set using HP Recovery Manager_before installing W7:
