Re: HDX16 buttons in windows 7

You have to be more specific. Help in what ? Does everything work except now that the Media Smart menu automatically comes up when you boot up the laptop from a complete shut down. Or you still haven't got the buttons to work properly ?

Here is the solution to stop the Media Smart menu from popping up on start up.

Make sure you have at least one Media Smart program installed on your laptop such as DVD.

Uninstall the Media Smart Menu from "programs and features" and restart your laptop.

Go to this link and install the one listed from HP "media smart smart menu"

 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-75909-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

Restart your laptop. At this point when the Media Smart button is touched on the hotkeys the Media Smart Menu should appear on the screen, but the eject button will not work.

Here is the fix for that :

First you need to download the rar extractor software . You will be prompted after 45 days to pay for it, but you can use it for now. You need this tool to extract another Media Smart Menu so the eject button will work. The menu is from my HDX18 when it was still running Vista.

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Here is the link for imagehost.org for the other Media smart Menu

http://g.imagehost.org/download/0206/MSMenu

Exract the file (I like to put it in my downloads and choose extract here). Click on the extracted folder and click on  "HPMediaSmartInstallerx86" This is important that you choose that one so it installs this Menu in the 32 bit part of the hard drive. Doing it this way will keep the two Menu's separate and the Menu will stop popping up on start up.

Just follow the install instructions and restart your laptop and the eject button should work and the Menu should also stop popping up.

If you look now in "programs and features" you should have two Media Smart menu's installed.

This is not the cleanest way to do it, but this worked for me.  :smileyhappy:

When you click on the link for imagehost an advertisement will come up: just close this off and the file should be there for you to download.

Re: HDX16 buttons in windows 7

That's an easy one. Just go to "programs and features" in the control panel and uninstall it from there. It's labeled "HP Tone Control". Restart the laptop after uninstalling > install the new one > restart and you should be good to go.

Re: HDX16 buttons in windows 7

its been a while since iv been here thought when i uploaded the original tone control every1s problem would be solved

i get those drivers and software from my dv8 laptop cous there the same design as u noticed

to be honest i recommend u use the old mediasmart menu they both work gr8 thought but the old mediasmart menu is originally designed for ur laptop i mean thts the best way to go

my dv8 has the same quick launch buttons so thts were i took the original tone control from and mediasmart menu tht ill provide now.

here is the link for the OEM mediasmart menu  http://g.imagehost.org/download/0238/mediasmart_menu

the mediasmart menu is responsible for the eject button so here is the original mediasmart menu tht i got with my dv8 it works with the eject button

i gues HP makes OEM software tht comes with the laptop working better than the drivers on there web page

if u wana chat just add me on msn          hp_drivers_help@live.ca

Re: HDX16 buttons in windows 7

Fixing the Bass and Treble buttons is easy:

1. Uninstall the new HP Tone Control.

2. Install the older HP Tone Control (file posted by whiteboyshady earlier in this thread).

(I've verified the above to work)

Fixing the Eject button seems a bit more complex... There are some conflicting reports.   It seems like this function is controlled by the Mediastart Menu program.  Once again it was suggested that installing an older version should work. However, other people state that this causes mediasmart menu to pop up each time Windows is started. I have some questions:

Is the old (version 2) Mediasmart menu compatible with new versions (3) of the other Mediasmart software?

Does it really have to be run in Vista compatibility mode?

Should I just uninstall the new Mediasmart menu and then install the old one?

Re: HDX16 buttons in windows 7

I had problems of whiteboyshadys solution because the menu just popped up from a fresh boot. I found that if I installed it the way I did it ( 4 or 5 post earlier ) that kept this from happening. When I did it this way I was able to get the new graphics that comes with the dv8 series.

Try both ways. If wbs works, then you are done. If it doesn't, uninstall his, and try mine. I tried to be very specific so people wouldn't have problems.

If you do let me know, but what ever you do make a note of it so you can undue it and  use a different method. At one point I had both graphic displays on the screen, one from the HDX and the dv8.

It took a Saturday of experimenting to get things to work for me and my post explains exactly what I did.

The eject is controlled by the Media Smart Menu. The problem is that the new menu from the dv8 and on the HP site does not operate the eject on the HDX and you still have to use the old menu that came from your HDX. Whiteboyshadys solution was to combine the software from the old and new. While mine installs complete menu's on different parts of the laptop and you will see two Media Smart menu's installed in "programs and features". One for the eject and the other for the menu and I think the volume graphics display.

I found that it made no difference if I ran things in Vista compatibility mode.

Everything is compatible.

Here is the Media Smart Menu from my HDX 18 when it was still in Vista. It is in a rar. file as this is the only way to get it to the forums. There are instructions earlier in this thread on how to open this type of file.

The menu contains the driver for the eject, the volume control and the bass and treble. You will have to uninstall the your present Media Smart Menu and tone controls first and then restart your laptop. Vista did not have a separate tone control driver; it was included in the Media Smart Menu software if I remember correctly.

Hi i am new at this (forum), i am from argentina, i buy a hdx 16t in usa with vista home premium 64 and i upgrade to windows 7, but i have the same problems that a read here, and an aditional problem, but i suppose that this problem is caused by the same.

My problems are:* treble and bass button, (i saw the same imagen that dOoBiX)

                                * when i listen a song ar any audio and I go up or low volume, the computer stops responding and I must restart

                                * When I disconnect the electrical source pc because the battery is fully charged, the computer stops responding again and I must restart. I think this relates to the above problems, because I have not this problems in vista.
