HELP-no Password

I Have a mini note 2133 that I turned on long enough to test out the wi-fi connection, not even long enough to register.  But when I turned it on the second time, it kept asking for a password to the Hard Drive, which I had never set.  So I have had 45minutes of use in the past month & can find an answer nowhere.

HELP if you know an answer.  Dr.Kathi@verizon.net

Re: HELP-no Password

Sorry, tried holding down F11 but it still asks for a password to the hard drive.  This is a Linux desktop OS, so it's different than Windows.
I can load up a Linux system from a jump drive, but it can;t access the hard drive and it can't seem to access the Wi-Fi system.
I DO like the size and weight, but it's not much good to me if it loaded with a password I don't know & didn't set.

Re: HELP-no Password

What you are referring to, is what is known as a bios password, that will require the bios to be flashed to solve the issue.

Re: HELP-no Password

I did enter a BIOS password & can get into BIOS as administrator, but the  hard drive still has another mystery password & I can;t get in or change it.  Still looking for help.

Re: HELP-no Password

Your problem somehow became marked as "solved", with your own post marked as the "accepted solution".  Is this correct or some mistake?

It sounds as though an ATA security lock password somehow was set on the hard drive.  If this is the case, it is not likely that you will get it unlocked.  The ATA security lock feature is very secure.  I recommend contacting HP technical support.  If the drive is security locked, it will probably need replacement.

Re: HELP-no Password

This waqs marked solved automatically when I read the first message/  It's not solved, it keeps asking for a password for the hard drive.  I've tried a Ubantu jump drive, but the resident memory program can't access the wi-fi or the TDK repair program.  Thanks for your response.  Dr.Kathi
