Application just keeps asking to check for updates. Whether I select yes or no it displays that the disk is ready and to just press play to begin playing. Disk just wont play.

This worked on my DV7-3079
Like others I have recently been unable to play Blu-Ray DVD's on my DV7 Laptop. When a Blu-Ray Disk was loaded
and MediaSmart DVD was started it would Ask Do you want to update If yes was selected the pop-up would close
and you would be left with a blank screen clicking the play button would result in absolutely nothing.
Clicking no would just re-ask the question.
In looking around other posts in this forum I found a reference to sp50778
which was not listed for my laptop in HP's Support and Drivers.
(the MediaSmart update for my laptop (dv7-3079) was listed as sp48296).
When I looked at the details for sp50778 it states that it applies to
HP ENVY 13
HP ENVY 14
HP ENVY 15
HP ENVY 17
HP Pavilion dm1 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dm3 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dm4 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dv3 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC Series
HP Pavilion dv8 Notebook PC Series
I installed sp50778 on my DV7 and Blu-Ray DVD's now play correctly
The URL for the sp is:

You can also use Power DVD10 which is now available for HP owners. Save it to the desk top desk top and run it from there, not from a temporary file.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53029
Disable your anti virus and firewall when you install it. Restart after the installation and let the Blu-ray play automatically with out opening the software.

team79. You. Are. A. God!
Thank you!
After several hours of loading and unloading Cyberlink software and various versions of PowerDVD, yours was the only solution that worked for my Pavilion dv7.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

You are Very Welcome, I think I had gone through the same things you did hunting for a version that would play Blu-Rays on my Dv7. Glad the sp* kit worked for you.

@ bagosh
I am going to ask a stupid question first.
Do you have a Blu-ray reader, you should see two lenses and one will have a bluish tint to it. There should also be a small Blu-ray logo on the the disc drawer front as well, 99.9% of the time the logo will be there.
When you insert a Blu-ray movie, even when the software will not play it, you will see the title of the movie in "Computer" under the DVD/CD/ROM drive.
Windows will see it even if the software won't, if you cant' see it there, then you have a different problem that we have to deal with.
I need to know what kind of anti-virus and firewall software you're running, some will block files when you're trying to install the Blu-ray software.
Also, what is your full model number dv7-xxxx xx
Are you running any virtual drives like Daemon Tools ?

Thank you for writing back... yes, I do have a Blue Ray Player... it has a blueish tinted lens and a clear lens next to it. It also has the logo.
I insert the movie in the player and on the DVD icon it shows the title of the movie with a "BD" underneath it.
I run McAfee as antivirus, even though I've diabled it for the installation of the Cyberlink DVD10 software... nothing.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7-3162nr
I am not familiar with Daemon Tools.
Looking forward to hearing from you... thank you.
