I am new to the Linux operating system world and I am struggling to download a program/package from the Internet. If someone could point me in the right direction and, at best, walk me through a download of the package I am currently trying to install, I would appreciate it very much. The package I am looking to install is here:
http://cran.r-project.org/
Thank you!
Derek

yo. I saw your distress signal for help. I'm new to linux too. I'm using the ubuntu 9.04 v.. One thing you'll learn about linux is that it isn't intuitive, and that's why people in general prefer windows. What I've slowly discovered is that linux people are like a big ol' family; we always try to help each other out. So, I'm gonna try and help you, and I want you to pay it forward and try and help another linux guy sometime soon.
Getting down to business, the file that you want to d.l. is a "tarball" and that basically means that it is in a zipped format similar to a zipped file in windows. In order to open it up, you will need an app similar to winzip, right? U can find the rest here.

Have you had any success using either method?
