HP Pavilion dv4-1041TX downgraded to XP, freezes on HP Invent screen

Hi all,

I've downgraded the above model to XP after making a new boot disk with SATA supported drivers.

On first boot after XP has installed it's frozen on the HP logo with the "Press the ESC key for startup menu" in the bottom left corner.

Is this anything to do with the HP Recovery Partition ?

Will it hurt to remove the partition and load XP again ?

Recovery partition was deleted when you install windows xp. Better to check ram and hdd if your system hung while loading.

Re: HP Pavilion dv4-1041TX downgraded to XP, freezes on HP Invent screen

Reasons to not delete the HP Recovery Partition
A small partition on the hard drive contains a record of all software installed at the factory and shipped with this system. This includes images for the Microsoft Operating System and supplemental products. If you have a problem with the operating system or device drivers, the programs on the recovery partition can restore the PC to proper operation.
If you decide to delete all of this information and remove the Recovery Partition you will make a small amount space available for other programs. If you back up your data, and you create a set of Recovery disks before deleting the partition, you can restore the PC later.
Remove the recovery partition
While HP does not recommend it, you can remove the recovery partition by performing the following actions. During the removal process, a reminder displays if Recovery disks have not been created.
  1. Click Start , type Recovery in the search field, and click on Recovery Manager when it appears in the program list to open the Recovery Manager window.
  2. Click Advanced options .
  3. Select the Remove recovery partition option and click Next .
  4. When prompted to verify that you want to delete the partition, select the Yes option, and click Next .
  5. Allow the removal process to continue and restart the PC.
Now I have looked and I'm sorry to say I have not came across anything saying XP will work after trying this but I came across this and thought you should know.

Re: HP Pavilion dv4-1041TX downgraded to XP, freezes on HP Invent screen

Thanks Guys,

At the moment I can't even get into the Boot menu so the recovery partition is unavailable. Locks up striaght after power comes on.
I've taken the hard drive out...put it in my desktop and formated the "C" partition and reloading the recovery disks...I'll see what happens.

Ciao Babe's

Thanks for the help.

Re: HP Pavilion dv4-1041TX downgraded to XP, freezes on HP Invent screen

Don't bother...I adventually got it to boot and then had no sound and downgraded graphics because of the Vista requirements on the motherboard.

I rebuilt into the original Vista spec's and then went and turned off all unwanted processes in services and made it look like XP with general setup. Works very well without all the HP and Vista rubbish running in the background.
