HP Pavillion dv5 1232TX - Vista to XP SP2 Downgrade

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I oringally was planning on keeping Windows Vista as the primary operating system, but i realised how unstable it was. Not to mention viruses getting passed my antivirus scanner. I have currently already done a lot of research on obtaining XP Drivers for this specific model. I have slipstreamed an XP disk and currently have the working drivers for:

  • Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN
  • Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture Bus Driver
  • IDT High Definition Audio Bus
  • nVidia High Definition
  • Agere Systems HDA Modem

The drivers i am unable to find are the following:

  • Realtek RTL8168C NIC - (Ethernet Controller)
  • Base System Device ??
  • SM Bus Controller ??
  • PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller ??
  • GeForce 9200M GS - (Video Controller) -- Currently Downloading and Testing

If anyone could point me in the right direction on these aspects, i will be able to post/edit this thread to give direct links and appropriate information for the same model if anyone happens to need it.

Thanks

Hi,

Downgrading this model is not always easy and Your model is designed for good work under Vista. Please check first this link written by Joshua Wood and concentrate in it on problems that may appear when You will be installing sound card. I know then this is guide for dv5 but many hardware and drivers are the same for both models.

It's recommended to test first all drivers and after that when You will know what will work for You slipstream drivers for future or just make backup of this system.

Before downgrade make Vista backup. Here You've got all informations how to do it.

You have a folder with drivers & programs that may prove very helpful after XP downgrade. Copy folder C:\Swsetup to DVD Before formatting your hdd.

Update Your Bios to the latest version from here.

How to do it?

Plug You ac adapter to the computer.

Disconnect from the internet. Switch off any antivirus and firewalls.

Start updating Bios. It may take some time. Don't switch off Your laptop, don't disconnect ac and don't do anything on it when this update is running.

Be sure also that You are using WinXP SP2 version. If you haven't got SP2 version here you can download this service pack

and here You have got guide how to slipstream this file with Your system again by nLite.

In this program You can even burn Your new XP cd with this driver.

I believe that You know how to slipstream Sata drivers so I will not write about it.

Drivers:

Intel Chipset (Install and reboot before other drivers) here

Intel Matrix Storage Manager here

MS-UAA for SP2 (required with a reboot before Audio, Modem and Graphic driver) here

MS-UAA for SP3 (required with a reboot before Audio, Modem and Graphic driver) here

NVIDIA Graphic GeForce 9200M GS

Use modded Nvidia ver 185.85 drivers.

How to install them in XP:
  1. Download driver here, double click and select extract,
  2. Download modded INF here and replace original INF in extracted folder,
  3. Install & reboot.

Intel Wireless 5100 here

Please check first this link written by Joshua Wood and concentrate in it on problems that may appear when You will be installing sound card. I know then this is guide for dv5 but many hardware and drivers are the same for both models.

IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC Driver,

1. sp41698, vista driver, reported work in XP here

2. sp41693, vista driver, reported work in XP here

3. sp39671, vista driver, reported works in XP here or here

4. Find Your Vista audio driver on this DVD where You burned C:\Swsetup folder. It may also work under XP.

When You will install any audio driver with success check is Your sound working.

If there will be no sound after restart check this thread. There are informations how to solve this.

High-Definition Audio (HDA) Modem Installer and Driver here

.Net Framework (required before HP Quick Lunch Buttons) here

HP Quick Lauch Buttons here

Realtek RTL8168C Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC here

Synaptics Touchpad here

JMB38X Card Reader Host Controller Driver  here

Cyberlink YouCam here

If you had for 7 unknown devices (buttons drivers), here (New link)

Do manual installation

Go to device manager, right click unknown device,

Choose to update driver, No to connect,

Choose install from a list or specific location, Don't search, Have disk,

Browse to the location of machine.inf.

Do it for the rest of unknown devices.

Re: HP Pavillion dv5 1232TX - Vista to XP SP2 Downgrade

Thank you very much for the detailed post. The sound drivers were the first task i knocked off the table, sound works perfectly on XP with the drivers i have downloaded. So far i have 3 missing drivers and after reading through your post, i think you have covered them. Im going to do a completely new install once i have fully tested and installed each driver.

Just to touch up on the sound, it works fine, sound comes out smooth, just a little sharp, but its working thats the main thing. One question i would like to ask or confirm with you, can i slipstream all the drivers? Currently i have only slipstreamed the SATA AHCI Controller, to make my job easy next time i wish to install a fresh copy, is it possible that i can slipstream and have it all automated when XP installs? Im going to presume that is doable.

Just finished installing the VGA drivers, the seem to work fine. Card Reader driver is also working fine. I still have three yellow question marks that im unsure of what they might be:

SMBus Controller - monitors system board temperature

PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller - not sure what this is

Unknown Device - im going to guess this would be the webcam (i only have one unknown device currently)

But thank you for your time and help, very much appreciated

Re: HP Pavillion dv5 1232TX - Vista to XP SP2 Downgrade

Sorry for the tripple post cant find the edit button for replies. Just a quick question though, if i was to go ahead and install XP SP3 (Service Pack 3) would it have much affect on my current drivers or should i just stick with SP2.

Cheers.

Re: HP Pavillion dv5 1232TX - Vista to XP SP2 Downgrade

Check last post from Cheryl in this thread about Macrium Reflect Disk. This is the best solution for quick installation of XP in future on this model.

Everything is working so You can try SP3 if there will be something wrong after that You always have possibility to uninstall it, but everything shuld be ok.
