HP SimplePass keeps telling me I'm having trouble on HP m6 Notebook?

I have an HP Pavilion m6-1045 running Windows 7 64-bit that I just recently bought yesterday, and I'm having trouble trying to enroll any of my fingers into the program. I have version SimplePass 5.4, and every time I get to the 3rd swipe, or close to getting the bar full, it tells me "It looks like you're having some trouble. Do you want to try again?" I have no idea how many times I've tried with different fingers and it always results in the program telling me this. I've washed my hands and if they're sweaty, dried them off before every swipe. Any help on what I can do?

Re: HP SimplePass keeps telling me I'm having trouble on HP m6 Notebook?

That is so irritating.  :smileyfrustrated:

You might take a quick look at the Troubleshooting guide:

Troubleshoot a Fingerprint Reader

And then just call HP straight off and see what they have to say about this.

It should not be doing this.

Contact HP – USA and Worldwide

Comments:

  • On older system setups, this can be caused by a dirty fingerprinter - not likely on a brand new system.  Nonetheless, one could clean the fingerprinter - instructions are in the doc.
  • This is typical, when it happens on the first swipe in particular, of a Driver and Software mismatch - again, this is not likely on a brand new system and even less likely than the fingerprinter being dirty.

Consider / Try:

  • You could try uninstalling the fingerprint driver (though Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager > Biometric Devices), rebooting and letting the system reinstall the driver.  That may be enough to reconnect and set things right.
  • You could try a master or "Hard Reset" - it's a bit nore drastic than the fingerprint driver install in the sense that it disconnects and then reconnects everything.  It's easy to do, though, and it just could fix things IF the issue is one of the fingerprinter being contrary.

The Hard Reset:

This method works for a variety of Driver connection and ‘stuck’ program issues.

  • Shut down the computer
  • Disconnect all external devices - everything.
  • Remove AC power and the battery
  • Press and hold power button for at least 30 seconds
  • Reinstall the AC power for first startup ** See Note
  • Power on - Log in
  • Next time you shut down the system, reinstall battery.

** Note:  If time is short, reinstall battery the first time and be done with it.

I hope this helps!

Re: HP SimplePass keeps telling me I'm having trouble on HP m6 Notebook?

So I miraculously managed to enroll one finger onto the program, and it seemed to have stick, as I can login to Facebook and YouTube just fine swiping that one finger. I'm thinking it's the software being all picky. I did try the first step in your "Consider/Try" heading, and it seemed to work after, so thanks for that! Hopefully I can manage to enroll more fingers because it's acting up again.

Miracles do happen - even with hardware.  :smileyhappy:

Maybe it is just humidity.... don't know where you are, but there are some *** hot spots in the USA right now.  I suspect that is true in a lot of places.  Smiling.

I am glad it's working.  Try again at night or in the morning and see if it makes a difference.  ?

I hope this helps!

Good Luck!
