Hello,
I recently downloaded HP Support Assistant for my HP ProBook 4530s. The problem is the software isn't working. After I installed the software on my system, I restarted my laptop. Then I clicked on the HP Support Assistant icon created on the desktop. As soon as click the software the HP assistant support logo comes up and then the software crashes in like 5 seconds before even displaying anything.
How do I fix this issue ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.
Udit G.

Hi Uditg,
Well, you could try removing the version of HP Support Assitant that you just so carefully installed and then try again. It's possible that it may stick better the second time (and/or the version might be different this time around).
Remove the existing one first - that does seem to help:
Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features > find and remove HP Support Assitant

I am having the same issue on an Elitebook 8540p.
The screen does not show the model # or serial #, just says loading.
And when it tries to download updates, it says Download Failed.
Thank you,
Alan

I tried your suggestion twice with the same result.
The program successfully uninstalls using Revo. After reinstalling the HPSA, I have the same results with the HPSA not detecting the computer information.

After that I reinstalled the current version you told me but still the application doesn't work. It shows up the HP support assistant logo and then it crashes again and shuts off automatically.
I reinstalled the whole program like 7 times so far and the software is yet to work.

Hi Uditg,
Edits 3:50 P.M. Be Below...
IMO:
I dislike HP Support Assitant.
The truth is that the software is fine until it doesn't work and then it's a nightmare. PERSONAL opinion.
I have several notebooks and a couple a desktops running various flavors of Windows - the Assitant runs, or DOES NOT run, as it sees fit. The operating systems are healthy, the Anti-Virus is NOT NORTON, the file systems are up-to-date, and the partitions are not set up in unusual configurations. The administrator is not an idiot. ![]()
I no longer run this software on my main work systems as anything more than a link to other softwares.
Seven times is enough. You win.
The workaround: Use your notebook's webpage to check for updated software for your computer. Read the Release notes - they are worthless most of the time, but be that as it may, it's more than you'll get if you set the computer to "auto-update" and let it throw updates at you without even looking at them. Decide what you need (or want) on your computer and then download and install the updates. That's what admins do.
- Go to the top of the forum page to Support and Drivers
- Enter your Computer Model information, and then go to Software and Drivers...
- Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu... Scroll down
- Show All
Check the Categories for Up-to-Date Software and Drivers
Reminder: Just above the "Software and Drivers" (at the main section for your computer), is a wealth of information! Manuals, How-to help, Alerts... Be sure to take a look!

You may well hear other opinions. I well respect the people who wrote and support this software - I do wonder why it doesn't work better by now.

It occurs to me that in the past (on a machine on which I still tolerate HPSA), the HPSA software was not working correctly and then did so once the .NET framework was updated. If you do not have Windows updates turned on, your .NET framework may not be getting updates - you can download updates for your OS at Microsoft.com.
Healthy File System:
If you throw everything else at this and you are convinced of gremlins, you could try scanning the system for inconsistancies and file errors. IMO, it's a good thing to do and it keeps the file system healthy. The computer will tell you if it finds something it cannot fix. The computer uses files stored within it to make the fixes. Fixing the file systerm will clear out any obscure reasons why the HPSA software won't run properly once it is installed on your computer.
There is every probability that this won't make a Mad Hatter's difference to HPSA - it should make the file system happy. If you have any concerns about running the command and allowing it to make changes to your computer, run the second version shown below (sfc /verifyonly).
Help on the System File Checker Command:
System File Checker tool Windows Vista or on Windows 7
sfc-scannow
Scan and repair the system. The sfc /scannow command will do that - it will scan the operating system, looking for corrupted files and inconsistencies; it will replace and repair whatever it can. If it finds corrupted programs or libraries, it will try to fix them.
- Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Right-Click Command Prompt > Select 'Run as Administrator'
- In the Command Prompt Window, type (or copy / paste) sfc /scannow and press Enter.
(Note the space between sfc and the "/".)
The sfc scan will report its findings and you can examine the results:
- Open a Command Prompt (does not have to be as Administrator):
- Use the copy command to create a readable file copy of the output:
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt
If “scannow” does not complete properly, try running:
sfc /verifyonly
Copy the results into a text file, pull the output file into Notepad and look for the errors that the full Scan could not fix.

I tried with the latest .NET Framework and same result. I am just going to manually do the updates using the SoftPaq Manager.
One day it will probably start working again.

It's a shame you can't use it all... You know, before I decided I hated HPSA on general principals, I had thrown .NET 4 at it, too. (I wanted the .NET 4 for something else but garnered a secret hope... nada.)
HPSA does have some useful bits aside from the updates (which do not work for a lot of people).
Don't give up - things change; especially computers. Whatever is going on inside yours won't stay that way. Give this a poke on occasion and it may respond on it's own or when the program is next updated by HP.
