So my HP Support Assistant detected a automatic upgrade to my current program and noted it as IMPORTANT. After applying the update i now have an error that comes up "HPSF_Utils.exe - Application Error" "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."
I don't understand, this is very maddening, i hit OK and i have the program still running but its totally messed up, text is missing/blank buttons aren't work. I uninstalled the HP Support Assistant and went back on HP Drivers & Download site for my specific HP laptop and downloaded the latest version and again the error occured. This is very frustrating!!
UPDATE: according to some similar problems i.e. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7it

Hello -
I have exactly the same problem on my recently acquired HP desktop computer.
Only the preinstalled HP Support Assistant works.
Once its updated it will not work any more. Same failure message.
I am still waiting on feedback from HP.

Can't believe HP doesn't have a answer for this.. I don't even know where to get the previous edition or the preinstalled edition since this upgraded version sucks

@MicGoogle
Hi,
Restore your system to point where you had earlier version of this software.

HP System Recovery will allow you to restore single programs that were preloaded when you received the system. It's in the HP folder, I use Start, Programs, to find it and launch. I use it so often on this problem I might make it a desktop icon.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for the suggestions, i ended up reformatting my whole hard drive and tried again and now it worked! So i guess something previuosly installed interferred.
UPDATE:
Edit: I have found the fix to this problem. This problem stems from antivirus you have. I had Zone Alarm Internet Suite, disabling or shutting it down wasn't enough, I uninstalled it and viola! It's working again. The latest version works now!

I am experiencing similar problem with G60-519WM. Sometime in 2011 issue appeared: "HPSF_Utils.exe application error. This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)." Also get: "HP Support Assistant - An error occurred." I have installed important Microsoft and HP updates and patches as they arise, and I suspect sometime in 2011 this has caused the problem. Have not been successful in going back to earlier restore point. Not willing to reformat the computer from scratch. HP Support will not open support ticket on my issue without my purchasing extended warranty (2 months out of warranty) which I do not want to do. I see that other users are experiencing similar issue.
