I've bought HP envy spectra and want to install Linux on it. Of course I want to go for dual boot solution since I don't want the "magic" of recovery to factory default "f9" gone away. Since the number partitions of my HardDrive had reach maximum
- System
- C Drive
- Recovery Drive
- HP_TOOLS
- Hibernate
I could not create one more partition for Linux so 1 of them must go away. I chose the HP_TOOLS because all external storage I've rite now is a 4 Gbs USB memory stick. So I want to do the installation with this sequence
1/ backup the HP_TOOLS to an image and store on USB or C drive.
2/ delete HP_TOOLS partition and shrink the C Drive down to unallocated space to make extra space.
3/ create an extended partition from those extra spaces
3/ Using linux installing partition to create swap, /home /root etc ... and another fat32 for restoring HP_TOOLS to that place later on.
My question is that ... will that work?
and inspired by the idea of ctsshxm.
If it would not be the solution then the only option left for me is to take out the HP recovery partition on an 16Gbs USB stick. Any issues will happen if I do this? Does the "f9" recovery still work and how could it be ?

hi,
any change to MBR will make f9 recovery to stop working. please create the recovery media from windows(using hp recovery manager) so that you have option to recovery machine to factory state anytime later.
also, copying HP_Tools partition is of no use, because if you do not have the partition and quickweb is not used anymore, no use of having a copy with you.
instead, you can create the partition anytime you want and re-install the quickweb application to make it work again.
hope it helps.
